You are a keen photographer visiting KTP and work hard at getting some stunning images. What is that there in the road? Ah a cheetah with a kill and no other vehicles around. We know it is not ideal to take photos through front window....

No I don't want to get out of the vehicle or drive off road. :naughty:

Is it acceptable to park your vehicle at an angle and take your photo's while checking for other visitors? If somebody arrives you gracefully move out of the way. Now for the million dollar question? Will you want to crucify me or can you live with it? :rtm:

Tobeio, I would say there is nothing wrong with that.

We are all there to experience what the park has to show us, so if the cheetah wants to come and play, it would be very rude not to get yourself in a good position to take his photo!!!!

Surely nobody would be in that much of a hurry to pass, that they would find it a problem

I would certainly wait for you to take your photos, and spend some time with the magnificent animal, and then hopefully I could take your place when you're finished.

That is how it used to work anyway!!!!!

Ditto to what Val has said. In fact, we have often parked in all sorts of directions (obviously not blocking other visitors traffic lane, or view) to get a decent shot - and not going off the verge etc etc.

Tobieo, I could certainly live with it, such a great sighting deserves spending a bit of time with it, as long as you don't block the road for ages it would be fine

Indeed spend as long as you like, but don't block the road
It is not every ones favourite the cheetah. My last visit we had to choose between a cheetah and baby hyena. We followed the baby with mother, it was such a perfect couple and we could easily pass the 'cheetah cars' until one decided to have it both and all for himself and blocked the road. Now no one had any sighting, not nice

 Tobieo.

We do the same. Cheetah, pygmy falcon or whatever.

It also helps to slow down the speedsters.

Then you get the folks who can sit for hours looking at sleeping lions a 100 metres from the road. And there they will sit because they 'found' the lions first. No matter what you do, they will occupy the prime viewing spot, until lions move away. :wall:

Birdwatching is a far better proposition. The birds are always on the move.

I am also a very keen photgrapher whilst SO just likes to look so we solve blocking each others view by my sitting in the back of the car and removing the passenger seat headrest so I get to see both sides and partially forward. We have often stopped across the road but only when no other cars around and if one comes along then we move aside. Most want to get a look if not a photo and with good sense and politeness this is possible (especially in KTP where there are less cars anyway). As we are avid birders we are often sitting for ages next to a bird sighting and have a sign in the back window 'Birding please pass' so other non-birders do not waste(!) their time queuing behind. Mind you we may of course be looking at something big and hairy!! Two years ago we stopped in KTP to watch the antics of a group of Meerkats and a passing vehicle asked what we were watching. When we said 'Meerkats' the lady said 'Oh only meerkats!' - proves you can't please all of the people all of the time. We do not have a narrow view of what is interesting - for us it is anything that moves and even things that don't move like the plants and trees. In fact sometimes we are just enjoying the sounds and smells or just the silence of the Kalahari!

Regards,

DASSIEDELIGHT and Peregrine Falcon.

Then you get the folks who can sit for hours looking at grass a 100 metres from the road where somebody before them saw a lion pop its ear up, thinking it/they will get up and prance around.

Then you get the folks who saw a lion's backside disappear into a thicket, and tell others they saw it, and they ALL tell you 'we are waiting for lions' in the vain hope that they will about turn and reappear.
