We drove from Augrabies via Upington to KTC in a day - we did not leave AFNP too early, stopped for shopping in Upington, and stopped off for a meeting in TR, and made it to KTC just in time for gate closing; so I think you have plenty of time.

Hi,

It is a pretty easy drive, just be cautious if you travel to Upington in the dark, as there are a lot of little (And large) creatures roaming that road in the dark.

Db, it's a great drive, not a nice drive

I have driven from Mata Mata to Kimberley on 2 occasions. If you leave KTC at 6am and take it slowly you will leave the Park at 11am. There is more than enough time to get to Upington . Enjoy!

Korshinab,

You should easily be able to visit the falls on your way to your accomodation in Upington.

The Falls are so close to the main parking area at the Augrabies main camp, and with the road from Twee Rivieren to Upington tarred, it is not nearly as slow a trip as it previously was.

You might even want to consider booking in at your Upington accomodation on the way through the town if you are early enough, as taking photo's of the falls in the middle of the day would certainly not be ideal light conditions. As the sun starts heading for the horizon you should get better light conditions, so being there a little later in the afternoon might be better. :hmz:

Of course all this will depend on what action the Aoub River dishes up for you on your way down from KTC to Twee Rivieren. :D

Don't worry though, because you should easily fit everything in.

I do not know your budget but now with the falls are lighted it might be a plus to stay over in Augrabies. We really enjoyed it, a sort of mystical falls.

Hi Defender
so you think i can wake up In KTC drive to TR- then Upington, check in my accomodation go to the falls and come back in town with no rush? If i live KTC at 7 am i will be in town at 13 -14 pm at last? Then another hour to the falls from town , is that correct? I can be there at 16 pm
I have an old 4x4 , i can't drive more then 100 km x hours : looks like i am flying....
I was nt sure to change the booking and cancel the last night at TR and make 2 in KTC
But you all know how good is stay 2 nights in the same spot without the nightmare of mooving every night.
Thanks ,i think is ok to do so.

Hi Korshinab,

If you leave at gate opening, and don't waste time, then it should be do'able without any major trouble.

Obviously if your accomodation in Upington is a big detour it could cause issues.

It would probably be best to decide on the day whether to book in first, or go to Augrabies first, dependent on the time you get to Upington.

Your time calculations sound right though. Unfortunately being in a Nature Reserve you cannot predict what you might see along the way, and whether it might be worth delaying your progress for. You will have to play it by ear.

Yes Defender you are right: is impredictable when driving in the reserve.....
My issue is that the day after i have to drive to Karoo NP : i have slow car (old Feroza) and i had check the road from Upington to Karoo NP on google earth, is completly desolated: no sign of live apart Carnarvon and Loxton ,is 7 hours drive for me,then i need to shop in Beaufort W. ,refill, and enter the Park,
So i need to see the fall the previous day, also cause i book all ready in Karoo NP (even if i can change it)
Have you done that road?

Hi Korshinab.
I would strongly advise you not to use the Carnarvon-Loxton route from Upington to Beaufort West and Karoo NP,unless you have a particular wish to go that way.
It is mainly a gravel road and in poor condition in certain sections.

It will certainly take you longer than if you go via Groblershoop,Prieska,Britstown,Victoria West and Three Sisters.
This is a very good quiet route with tarred road all the way.
