We are visiting Kgalagadi for the first time - 27/9/2013 to 3/10/2013. We have got a Fortuner and want to take our Eagle Fibreglass Trailer. Will the trailer handle the road conditions? We are staying at Twee Rivieren, Nossob & Kalahari Tented Camp.

I think if you go slowly and keep to the main roads you will be fine..
We only drive a qashqai or however you spell it ( a white car ) and last time it was a sedan . never had problems . Roads just corrugated Never pulled a trailer though
Dont forget you yellow ribbon

If you are a member of the forum which you are then you tie a yellow ribbon to the right mirror and fellow mites will recognise you as a mite will then say hello. Your ribbon can be as small or as big as you like .. you should see some Yellow ribbons some mites have even gone so far to hand items of clothing of bright yellow on their mirrors ..But do tie something and you never know who you will meet

Hi Gina
If your trailer is an ordinary road trailer, perhaps think twice before taking it. The road conditions can vary a lot - smooth just after the grader has worked on them, very badly corrugated after having a lot of traffic on them(school holidays etc). I see you are starting your trip towards the end of the school holidays, so you might hit very bad roads. Your Fortuner will be fine. No matter what you decide, remember to deflate your tires to 1.5 bars, for a softer and more comfortable ride. Hope you have a great trip!

When visiting South Africa (Southern Africa) we always drive a rental sedan (Toyota Corolla).
we visited Kgalagadi in 1999, 2001, 2002,2005, 2008 and 2009 - always in October - November, 2009 in February. You will have to lower the tire pressure in Twee Rivieren. Most of the roads are sandy. There is a lot of washboard and dips. But we always managed, even after a thunderstorm...
enjoy ... geniet !

PS give our regards to the lions in the Nossob area !
