We will be landing in Upington at 12:30 pm on a Saturday, need to pick up the rental car and go shopping for 10 days worth of supplies. What is the latest we should leave Upington by? Is it possible to arrive at Twee Rivieren after the gates close and be stuck there for the night?

Hi wildcatzoo,

It's a two and a half hour drive to Twee Rivieren from Upington.

No late entry at Twee Rivieren. They lock the gates and you will be stuck in the parking lot outside the Reception Building.

PnP in Upington stay open on Saturdays (actually 7 days a week) till 8pm........What you could do to save time is email them your basic grocery list and then you only need to do the shopping for those items you want to pick out yourself. The emailed groceries will be ready for you just to pay and pick up. PM me if you need the email address.

Thanks lion queen!

While I've shopped in South African supermarkets before I can't remember how well they compare to the US so I'm not sure what to request - for anyone who's done this before, what are some standard things? Tinned corn for sure. Boxed juices, but I forget what flavors are available. Do they have mixed nuts? We'll need what, 50 litres of water for the two of us? Should we get that from PnP or somewhere else? Does PnP have charcoal? Firewood? A cooler box?

Hi wildcatzoo,

Pick'n Pay (PnP) has an online store where you can go and have a look at what are available before you mail your shopping list through [www dot picknpay dot co dot za (just click on the "shop online" button on the home page)]

And yes, all the things you've mentioned, they do have

You should make it easily, but even if you are late you can phone twee rivieren the day before you arrive to let them know you will be late and they will make an arrangement. I did it 2 years ago and I had no problem. If you shop at the pick and pay you can e-mail the manager a week before you go with your shopping list. They deliver to the airport and pack it in the car for no extra charge. They were brilliant. There is a link to a shopping section for the ktp. I put all the details in my post there about 2 years ago

One of the items that is usually plentiful in the 2R shop, is firewood.

50 litres of bottled water seems a lot, unless you drink very little else at this time of year.

The park shops sell it as well if you run out.

Thanks for all the info! Luckily I still have two months to wade through the online PnP food items and make a list. Anyone know how the PnP instant mash garlic potatoes are?
