Hi shfish

We were also on number 3!

Polentswa is just under 2km from the Nossob road, and a 4x4 is recommended mainly for clearance not for technical ability. Your car should be fine, no soft sand just a grass middlemannetjie.

Enjoy!

There was a interesting article posted on the water shortage at Nossob, Twee Rivieren and the reasons why, People should find it and read it as it goes about outsiders washing and doing laundry at the camps facilities. :hmz:

Hi Giova.
Polentswa water hole is only about 100 metres from the road between Nossob and Unions End.
You will pass it on your right if you travel to Grootkolk from Nossob.

You do not need a 4x4.
Only some patience to wait a while for the animals and birds to show themselves,at this very productive spot.
I am

i Giova.
You ask very difficult questions.
If you are at the right place at the right time, you will see a lot.

I will try to give you my best advice.
Polentswa is on your way from Nossob to Grootkolk so definately stop and spend some time there on your way up and down.
A very big decision at Grootkolk is whether to spend time in the camp or to go out.
Generally I find it better to stay in the camp until about 9.30 am and then go out driving to Lijiersdraai waterhole and sometimes to Polentswa.
In the late afternoon Unions End waterhole has a nice tree next to it which makes it a good place to spend some time.
I try to be back at Grootkolk by 30 mins before the gate closes as then there is still some light to see any action.
The waterhole is lit up at night.

Urikaruus has the best situated waterhole for viewing from your chalet.
The waterhole is lit up at night.
Some people never leave and spend all day watching the waterhole and reading.
You never know what will show up.

It is probably the best chance to see leopard/lion/cheetah/hyena from the comfort of you balcony.
Although you may have to stay up all night to see them all.
Personally I would spend the early mornings and evenings at Urikaruus.

There are many other waterholes situated in the riverbed and you have the choice to travel north or south.
The areas between Thirteenth borehole and Dalkieth often have large herds of antelope and the cats will not be far away.
Down south leopard are often spotted amongst the calcrete cliffs on the sides of the riverbed.

Ask you camp attendant for advice as well as other guests and visitors, especially those with yellow ribbons for what and where they have seen something interesting.

Have a great trip and hopefully you will see everything that you wish for.

I love both Rooiputs and the Polentswa settings...but boy there was a huge bee problem at Polentswa when we stayed there.
So if your visit is in the dry hot months before any rain i wouldn't want to go there..The Kaa trail I am told has the same problem...its unpleasant to say the least.
Just MHO but Rooiputs even with the lodge for me,sites 1-4
