We're planning to overnight at Upington on our way to KTP. We're looking for a reasonably priced self-catering place to stay, nothing too fancy. Please PM me (as per the rules) if you can recommend any establishments.

Do the filling stations at the main rest camps have 50 ppm diesel or only 500ppm diesel?

KG recently answered this on another thread.

I can't remember which one or the answer. :wall:

50ppm only

"There is now only 50ppm available at the fuel stations in the park and not the 500ppm.

We'll be heading to KTP mid Aug on our first trip there!!! Can anyone provide a road report on the N1/N14 from Pretoria to Upington.

What about N1 then N 12 via Potch/Klerksdorp - Wolmeranstad - Schweizer Reyneke - Vryburg - Upington - TR ???

@DarylJ - we are so fortune, I'll also be in the KTP over the long weekend in Aug 2013 staying at TR. Enjoy it!!

And I do agree with Scouter - the food at the Takeaways are really good at TR especially the vetkoek. Definitely I'll have my share over the long weekend - brunch after the early morning drive. The Kalahari vetkoek was so big - I had left-overs for later that afternoon. So looking forward to it.

We had our first trip to Khalagadi in November last year, I`m now thinking of taking legal action against Sanparks for not posting a warning to visitors of this park on how addictive it is. Well I`ve slaved hard for a year and have now also booked my return trip for November 2013 - yay!
We did the trip via Vryberg, Kuruman into Upington and then north to the park. There was a detour around Ventersborp but else I thought the roads were great. If my memory serves correct we had one stop/go just before Kuruman. Left at 3am and made TR comfortably with stops along the way for breakfast and lunch and shopping for the best meat ever in Uppington.
This year I would be interested in the road from Kuruman through Van Zyls, if anyone can give updated info on the road conditions.

I'm typing this from twee rivieren. We drove the n 14 all the way from Joburg to upington on Wednesday last week. The road surface is really good, and the road was nice and quiet most of the way. We hit about 6/7 stop n goes which added probably around 30-45 minutes. It was a relaxed easy drive.

Josh

How long did the drive on the N14 take to TR from Jo'burg? Trying to gauge if I drive all in one day or overnight somewhere.

Thanks
