Thanx Dotty and Lion Queen. I must learn to post pix.

We could not believe our luck on Saturday of Easter when we saw this Caracal in daylight not disturbed at all.

We were more impressed when it was still there the Sunday. On Sunday the cat showed a lot of interest in a Hamerkop which was hanging around the scene.

We saw the same sighting. This was the Sunday. The kill was made on the Saturday. We first saw it about 100m from Houmoed the Saturday morning. I is a very young springbok. The prey were not yet swollen the Saturday.

I do not know how to post pics but there are nice pkotos of this sigthing posted by me on http://www.aboutthebush.com under "The Breathtaking Caracal"

Sorry to contradict, Hollebollegys. The kill was already made on Friday. We could even see the drag marks from the riverbed across the road onto the bottom dune.

But it seems the caracal took its sweet time and stayed around for quite some time. 8)

BTW, we were there on Saturday morning as well. Got a very similar pic to yours.

And here is a different angle of the kill. Taken on the 29th March 2013.
Looks like a little steenbok to me.

shouldn't there be a black patch on his nose if it was a steenbok?!

The nose with the black patch is partly bitten off.
But look at those patterns in the ears, that looks steenbok like

Thanx Lionspoon! now I have the full story.

By the way there was a young German couple with a CRV who showed me a great leopard sighting near Kaspersdraai, perhaps it was you?

Unfortunately not, Hollebollegys. Even if we had been there, I would hardly describe us
as young Germans.
