Morning all,

The veld is indeed very bare, last year this time the sour grass was standing knee high. We do hope that we get some rain soon. The seasons are changing and it can be seen in the morning and the temperatures are busy dropping early morning.

Have a great one

Morning All,

Twee Rivieren had about 3mm last night and over Botswana there were heavy thunderstorms.

It is sad times indeed what the stay-away rain is concerned .

As Guru said, the temperatures are dropping quickly now in the morning, and with the 'climate' within the soil below being bone-dry at this stage . . . I am of opinion that the (wanted) positive effect of growth is going to be very limited . . . even should there be a sudden storm with 20-40 mm of rain to show.

Looking at yr.no nossob today, there is only a skimpy chance for any rain for the next 10 days . . by that time we'll be well into April already.

It sure looks as if we've come to the end of a cycle of the " seven prosperous years " as referred to in biblical times. We simply cannot deny the fact the that Kalahari has given us its utmost best every year since 2006 !

On the up-side of things we must realise that the animals do adapt very quickly and I cannot realy recall seeing a lot of bone-thin animals in the bad times <2005. For the us, the visitor, nothing much will change except that you are going have a far better 'animal-sighting ratio' . . . and maybe Kalahari will show itself it its true arid make-up of visible red dunes and plenty of animals in close proximity of the waterholes again.

As I recall, the records mainly oral from the San and the Le Riches suggest that a very very dry season is invariably followed by a very very wet one. The year 1934 being the most dramatic and indeed saddest
