As I recall, the records mainly oral from the San and the Le Riches suggest that a very very dry season is invariably followed by a very very wet one. The year 1934 being the most dramatic and indeed saddest

KNP is sacred. I am opposed to the modernisation of Kruger and from the depths of my soul long for the Kruger of yesteryear! 1000+km on foot in KNP incl 56 wild trails.200+ nights in the wildernessndloti-indigenous name for serval.

Hi all,

Am up at Kalahari tent camp at the moment.
Scattered showers the previous 2 days.

There are pools of water all the way from MM to twee riverin, and the river bed looks pretty moist in a lot of places, but it is drying fast.

Not great for sightings the last 2 Days, amd nothing was at the waterholes this morning (did see a lot of Wild cat, and also a huge rock monitor near sitzas after the rain) but should help add a bit of moisture to the vegetation.
Haven't seen any Gemsbok cucumbers or Tsama mellons, so it is going to be a dry winter for the animals in the dunes.

Back to Ktc now, then Nossob, will report in 2 weeks.

Hi Bucky,

Thanks for the good news! We were in MM 3 days last week, and game viewing was very sparse indeed! The forecast for the next 3 days looks good for MM!
By the way, has Gertie shown herself again in KTC? We saw her 3 different times, and she moved about 10 km within a day, all the way to the waterhole at MM, and spent most of her time in KTC on the dune behind tent no. 4. She was very skittish and always moving with her 3 cubs...?
The good rains in Botswana will attract most of the game so sightings won't be too good unless more rain falls close to the roads!

God bless,

Friedrich von Horsten

I see Twee Rivieren had 40mm in the 24hr period ending 08h00 on the 1st April. But only 7mm for whole of February.
