Hi there,
Just returned from KTP and needless to say we had a wonderful time.
Thought I'd share this with you.
At Kamqua picnic spot we saw a female spotted Hyena with 2 youngsters. They were leaving the picnic just as we arrived and settled under a tree not far off where the cubs had a suckle.
A few days later, late afternoon, again at the same picnic area we saw one of the cubs scavinging for possible leftovers. He found a spot in the sand, where someone had emptied something, a fatty substance of sorts.

We've noticed that most people are responsible and take their waste with them (except for those who use the braai to deposit their waste). But in this instance, emptying a pot of liquid on the sand was not so smart.

(Anne-marie, hope you are well, remember Kamqua was where my son (hopefully)fixed your rented fridge. By the way we were in the same unit as u were at Urikaruus, and we also saw a leopard but unable to id).

Just because a waterhole is dry, it does not mean you should just race past. This last December holiday we stayed in Nossob for a couple of nights. One morning we drove north and had a wonderfull sighting of a brown hyena at Bedinkt. We decided to keep going north, and got to Langklaas waterhole. Those of you that know the area will know that the waterhole is a little off the road. There was also a sign at the entrance road stating that the waterhole is dry. I decided to drive past, but my kids all moaned and said they wanted to go see the dry waterhole. Oh well - don't feel like listening to this, so i might as well take a quick detour.....

Could you believe there were three beautiful young male lions lying in the road next to the dry waterhole. We sat taking photos, and watched as one after the other vehicle went racing past.

You can just imagine how "windgat" the kids were after this sighting.....

Thank you once again Jan van Wyk and lion queen for your really stunning photos. I can only wish to see and photograph an adorable lion family like the one you shared with us!
….and that lion that saw herself in the water reflection tells a whole story by itself! Remarkable!!

We stopped at the Auchterlonie picnic place and were on our way to the loo when a friendly visitor warned not to follow the footpath because of this rather large puffadder curled up and camoflaged right in the middle of this bush!

Not a very exciting photo, but I can asure you that when we saw these 3 lions (all in all 10 of them) at Craigh Lockhart waterhole in April 2012, we were VERY excited. Unfortunately this is the only photo of them, as some of you may recall, my PC crashed with ALL my April 2012 photos (and lots other) just before downloading them.
