Buglette wrote a lovely report on Mokala under the Travel tales. I think that this is the address, but I am not sure how to do a link. It was called Red Dust and Diamonds, so if the address doesn't work, go and have a look under the TT thread.

Glad to see that some of the lesser known parks are also getting some exposure.

I've just received an email from Tess at Mokala giving me the good news regarding the water problems at Stofdam in Mokala. Here is her message:

"As promised I will keep you informed when there will be water again in Stofdam bird hide. Please see attached email with a picture of the water starting to flow into Stofdam.

We tried again to find water close by and were successful and sunk 2 new boreholes that had water. So we can now say with great relief that Stofdam will now have water."

I've just posted the information on my blog and a picture received from Tess:

Thanks Tess for keeping us informed and all your trouble. Much appreciated.

A week or two ago my wife and I decided to visit Mokala National Park over a weekend. As promised by Tess, Stofdam is getting water and although the water level is very low, we enjoyed our Saturday afternoon in the bird hide. See my trip report with more photos on my blog: http://willemkruger.wordpress.com/2012/ ... -aug-2012/

Hi all,
we are just back home after three wonderful weeks in SA and we are starting planning 2013 trip (our 14Th!!!! )
and we'd like to visit Mokala, the only NP that we'd never visited.
The pictures that I saw in this topics are are very beautiful.
How many days do you think we should stay?
Thank you
Bye

Hi Silvia

Not an easy question te answer. It all depends on what you are looking for and what you want to do. Because of the size of the park, one can take it very slow (drive around 20-25km/h) and complete a loop within 1-2h. It will all depends on your sightings and well. if you are a photographer like me, it migth take longer. Then there is the bird hide at Stofdam that, if you are a bird lover, you can spend almost an entire afternoon in the hide enjoying your self with the bird life.

I usually stay for a weekend and it is enough for me. I would suggest 3-4 days if you just want to relax & chill. Otherwise I do enjoy my weekend away from home in Mokala.

I'll try and post another trip report on Mokala on my blog once I return from Mokala in a week or two. Therefore, keep your eye on my blog and/or the trip report section of this forum.

I hope it helps but you need to experience the park yourself.

Enjoy it.
