I think we all enjoy the ever present Black-backed Jackals sightings that take advantage of many different situations that can scavenge or they can hunt and can eat almost anything.

The Bat-eared fox foraging for two their favourite foods- beetle larvae and harvester termites.

and the elegant Cape Fox with a large bushy tail and is the only true fox found in Southern Africa.

I open the thread and hopefully everybody can upload images,tell some stories, where they spotted them and may be lucky to photograph the youngsters.

Hi Jan,
Caught this Black Backed late afternoon. The light was just right. On my way back to Nossob after a very successful game drive.



Reminds me of a story. Years ago near TR we came across a BBJ who was in a bad way. He had a wire snare around his neck. He probably had walked into a trap on one of the surrounding farms.
We got hold of the ranger at TR and went to the place we had last seen the poor animal. It was no longer there. He asked us to help him track it. We bumped into Dr Gus Mills, who happened to be in the area too. We all piled into his Cruiser, went to fetch a tracker and proceeded to follow the spoor.
Sadly we did not find the poor animal but this event will stay with me for as long as I live. To be with people who have done so much for conservation and to experience a bushman tracker in action.
On a later trip Dr Mills when asked, said that they had later come across the BBJ by chance, still alive and had put it down.
Apologies to those who have heard this story before.
