KTP means different things to different people, wish I could be there every day of my life a visit isn't even feasible at this stage will have to wait til 2012.

Lack of sightings and the heat (for me hot hot and even hotter is better (think i was a reptile is last life). First visit to the old KTP no wilderness camps, no drives or walks, terrible roads including the one to get there, but i wanted to see gemsbok in the flesh, had seen in area to the north etc: 3 days I think I had seen every lion in KTP including the ones who have included toilet training in their lives, cheetah, etc no gemsbok, a blob on the binos once, that could have been anything. Then early one morning sucess and from then on saw gemsbok all over. It is the luck of the draw, including an agressive Cape Cobra striking at the Landie's wheels.

Anyone who wants or expects a Kruger experience is going to be disappointed. Its different and thats why I want to be there.

we're so infatuated with the place, since 1988 and can't stay away from there and can't stop thinking of it so we bought stands in Askham to hopefully one day retire there.
Lion queen you are so fortunate to stay that close, we would drive there for a days outing.

We have done the day outings a few times. The biggest problem is that I want to be there when the gates open and only leave when they closes. Then that 2 plus hour drive back to Upington catches you. Usually we did this on a Sunday and then I'm dead tired the next day at work... and wishing I could be there and not in town in my office........

Now if we lived in Askam! That would be a different story!!!!!!

Wonder why it is?

Hi Picnic (and other commentators)……or maybe it is because no where else in the world one will be able to take photos of these wonderful wild creatures so close-up to you that you can ‘almost’ touch them!

…..or maybe it is because in KTP a person is one with Nature…..and when you are one with Nature, you are also close to your Creator!

……or maybe it just puts life in perspective!

....to an eye contact with an untamed cheetah!



I forgot to mention, not only the constant apparent brutal ending of life in the quest for food…….but the miracle of a new birth albeit in extreme harsh conditions, to complete the cycle of life!



……to the first wobbly steps of a new born!



Or is it just…..the vast plains of the Kgalagadi



…..to the painted sky of the setting sun!



That’s why we cannot get enough …….because it relaxes your soul!

You have summed it up in so little words and so true.
The Kalahari does make you appreciate the smaller things in life and also for the people working here it makes you get along with little since everything is so far away - not that any of us is complaining we prefer it this way.
