Update from my folks who arrived at Twee Rivieren today:

- they saw the mating lions just past the 10km marker on the TR-Nossob road that Jan had see earlier
- 3 cheetah on the way back to TR from the mating lions
- they counted no less than 7 Eland carcasses at Samevlooing   ...not sure how old they were, but they said there were the 2 fresh ones right near the waterhole that Jannie spoke of earlier, with other carcasses scattered at varying distances from the waterhole

I have seen two giraffe kills in the park but they have all been north of Uri. Is it not abnormal for the Giraffe to be so far south?

@ Lee,

The giraffe are exploring and they have been as far south as where the dune road from Twee Rivieren reaches the Aoub river, not very regular but they do come this far south. Few months ago they were even seen at Rooiputs.

Hi KG,
Would there be any plans to move some of the giraffes to Nossob, or do they have to find their own way ?

@ jb,

Unfortunately they will have to find their own way there.

Hopefully, as their numbers increase as steadily as in the last 8 years or so, so will their territory.

Morning all,

Sorry for posting so late but it has been a hectic week yet again. Friday morning I did a walk (From Samevloeiing) with 3 guests. At the spot where we enter our walking area I saw some lion tracks heading in the opposite direction (was a bit disappointed). Soon after the lion tracks we came across 2 eland carcasses and very fresh leopard tracks, so we decided to follow them....but the wind was blowing from our backs and we were in a disadvantaged position so gave up the tracking, for once a predator realizes that he /she is being tracked they disappear very quick.

We headed off too our halfway break spot when one of the guests said he saw something moving in the grass just left front of us, I started scanning the area where the guests pointed at and saw two little ears just below a Camel thorn, taking up the binocs we realised that it was a female lion keeping a close eye on us (at about 40m).

We then walked up the calcrete ridge to get a better and also saver view, and then suddenly there was a huge black mane lion as well, just lying there and watching us. We stood on the ridge for about 30min just staring at each other before we decided to leave the lions and not to overstay our welcome.

As for the Twee Rivieren sightings board the following was seen:

Lions at: Samevloeiing, Houmoed, Kij Kij, Kamfersboom.
Leopard at: Monro, Batulama and Urikaruus
Honey badger at: Monro and Kameelsleep

Enjoy the week..
