Good morning all!

I know these questions have probably been asked hundreds of times, but I need assistance please.

We are looking to visit the KTP soon, but I would like to know when is the best time to visit between June and August? We are trying to avoid rain as we will be camping with a offroad trailer.

Planning as follow:

Twee Rivieren - 2 days in the area
Nossob - 2 days in the area (is the drive possible in one day from Twee Rivieren??)
Polentswa
Kaa
Gnus Gnus via Swartpan
Lang Rambuka
Nossob
Monamodi
Rooiputs via Mata Mata

Any alternative suggestions would be highly appreciated.

We are planning for about 10 days....

Then another question, how do one go about booking camp sites in the Botswana side?
Does most of the camps have ablution and Electricity?
Fresh water?

Sorry about all the questions!

Dear forumites,
I am going to KTP next june and will stay three nights in Nossob. My plan is to go to hide during the day but also every night while there. Initially, the idea was to stay in the hide until after 9:30Pm, when the lights are out. However, after seeing some pictures in one TR showing lions below the hide during the day, I started to think if it would be safe to come back from the hide in the dark night, only with our spotlight. Any advices or comments on that?

Cheers
Charbel

1 June 2013 - Twee Rivieren
2 June 2013 - Kieliekrankie
3-4 June 2013 - Kalahari Tented Camp
5 June 2013 - Twee Rivieren
6-8 June 2013 - Nossob
9 June 2013 - Gharagab
10 June 2013 - Grootkolk
11 June 2013 - Nossob
12 June 2013 - Twee Rivieren

Your biggest worry at night charbel is not standing on a scorpion.

The lions are outside the camp and the hide walkway is secure.

stelliegp123 - see feedback below

I PERSONALLY WOULD PREFER AUGUST - LESS BUSY AND A LITTLE BIT WARMER

Twee Rivieren - 2 days in the area
Nossob - 2 days in the area (is the drive possible in one day from Twee Rivieren??) YES ITS POSSIBLE
Polentswa, Kaa, Gnus Gnus, Lang Rambuka, Monamodi, Rooiputs - NO ABLUTION AND ELECTRICITY - SOME WITH LONGDROP AND SHOWER CUBICLE - BRING OWN SHOWER - PORTAPOTTY RECOMMENDED - MUST BE TOTALLY SELF SUFFICIENT - WATER, FOOD ETC
Kaa
Gnus Gnus via Swartpan
Lang Rambuka
Nossob
Monamodi
Rooiputs via Mata Mata

Then another question, how do one go about booking camp sites in the Botswana side?

Hi

We are planning a visit to Kgalagadi for the first time in Sept 2014. We do camping in ground tents. We are going to enter the park at 2 rivieren, do Mata Mata en Nossop. In which sequence can we do the 3 camps? Say your last camp is Nossop, can you drive from there in one day to leave the park again at 2 Rivieren? I have a look at the map, but am still not sure how to plan or plot our visit. Help please!

Hi Fynbos.....It is very possible to drive from Nossob to TR and leave the park before gate closing time.

It depends on how long will your stay be and from where will you be driving to the park ( in other words how long will your first day be).

Hi Fynbos

Try and stay at TR at the beginning of your trip and at the end of your trip. It makes the travelling to and from the Kgalagadi easier.

Fynbos, Nossob to TR is +- 160 km.........at 30 km/h an 5 hour drive, plus two stops at the picnic sites should give you an 6 hour drive..........

From Paarl

We leave CT at about 2h00 and get to 2R by about 14h00, and are in time for a good afternoon drive.

We also camp sometimes. I see you are not going in te rainy season, but just in case, I would advise you to pick a spot on higher ground otherwise your blow up beds might float.....

It depends where you want to sleep in Nam after exiting the park. If it is far, I would recommend that you stay at MM on the last night.

Don't forget to complete the cross-border formalitles at 2R.

Is it a stupid idea to think about visiting the park for let´s say 3 days but staying outside the park?

With the bats problem I don´t stand a chance to try and plan a trip sleeping inside (I would be a dead man) and browsing the internet I found the Molopo Lodge, which seems to have a decent standard and I think is a little less then 1 hour from the gate.

Of course this would bring some limitations, for example on the places I could reach during a day trip inside the park and I would miss the night atmosphere of the park, but I´m sure it´s that or nothing.

Anyone did this?

Opinions are more than welcome...
