In addition to what BB said:

According to a program that was aired on TV the water quality on the SA side is very different to what the Eland are accustomed/adapted to on the Botswana side (from where they migrated - way more brackish on SA side). In some instances their bodies couldn't cope with the large amount of brackish water and as a consequence just collapsed and died shortly after they consumed a large quantity of the (brackish) water.

@ kk23uk, there is no 'bad' time to go to Kgalagadi.

Being a desert park, your view in largely uninterrupted and the cats show themselves.

gatita has got it right.

Just a warning. Don't get the red sand in your shoes. It will pull you back unmercifully.

Thanks all, Sounds like you saw an awful lot Gatita, caracals, hyenas, cheetah and a leopard all in one trip? WOW!!! Did you happen to write up a trip report? Would you say your sightings were average for what someone could expect to see or do you feel that this was a particularly successful trip? If I just have a week, is that a good length of time to have a decent chance of some good cat sightings or does one need to spend more time there? Any recommendations for a good company to put together a guided trip or anyone looking to go around the same time who wouldn't mind some company would be fab!

Dear forumites,

In a month or so I will be heading to KTP. Couldn't be more excited.

I'd like to ask you for information about what animals people have been seeing in the camps (both main and wilderness, see list below) in the last month. Maybe we have the chance to look for them in the camps. Also, any indication of animals to be seen in particular spots in the roads or in the waterholes would be great.

For instance, is the meerkat colony still inside Twee Rivieren? Or did they move?

All the best
Charbel

Hi All,

Can anyone update me on the status of travel from Pretoria to Upington with all the roadworks and how long it should take us? Had mixed advice. I have read through all previous posts, but the relevant ones date back to 2010. There are 4 adults in the vehicle and we will be towing a heavy 4X4 trailer for the 1st time, so don't want to really go over 100km's per hour for safety and fuel efficiency??

I also read here that the N14 is awful around PTA/JHB for the 1st 100kms.....and to avoid, is this still the case? What is the best route to take? We want to leave at 4a.m.

Only 21 days left!!!!!!! After waiting for 11 months from booking, can't believe it's around the corner!! Am beside myself with excitement!!  :D

Hi forumites,
I am experiencing a very difficult problem for my travel to KTP next june. My friend, who would go with me, is likely to not be able to go.And he drives, I do not... Does anyone know of any possible solution regarding this? Any possibility of hiring a driver or something like that?

Cheers
Charbel

A light appear in the end of the tunnel... maybe the problem will be solved...

Anyway, as I intend to travel other times by myself and don't plan to learn to drive, any idea in this regard would be interesting,

Cheers

Hi Charbel,

Keep your eyes peeled for a Blue Toyota Fortuner (with ribbons) in the campsite at Nossob on the 6th!

Hi LauraC!

Looks like we'll be in the KTP at the same time - I'm just as excited as you sound and am also interested in the answers to your questions.

In addition, can anyone tell me if there are any problems with fuel supplies or payment for fuel and goods from the shop with petrol / credit cards?

Click here http://www.sanparks.org/forums/viewtopic.php?style=2&f=69&t=26355 and send a pm to Jazil to get your dates loaded to the page.

Be on the lookout for a Blue Fortuner at the places below.
