Two years in a row now we experienced very strong afternoon winds in Kgalagadi during August / September. I am off to Rooiputs again this September. Can anyone tell me if these winds are normal that time of the year or were we just unlucky.

I wouldn't know about Rooiputs at that time of the year, Lion Queen should be able to tell you all about it roberte! But as far as I know, August and September are normally very windy in South Africa! :D

roberte, we have been to the park several times mid - end Sept and I cannot recall having experienced unusual windy conditions. I think it is windy season then, or put it this way, we have heard of people having experienced much wind then. Perhaps we have just been lucky?? Mother Nature for you :D
Enjoy

Roberte,

August is usually a windy month and sometimes real unpleasant. September not so windy, but it depends.

Thanks everybody. My last two visits were both in August and not only in Rooiputs but also in Nosob we had to tie down our tents very solidly. But hey, who cares. Put your back to the wind in your chair and bite the dust. (excuse the pun). It dies down at 16:00 or there about and then it is all worth just being there again.

Hi Tobieo.
Was in KTP last week.
The rains over Easter have certainly improved the grazing with green grass to be seen in certain parts of the riverbeds.
Even the trees appear to be more lush for this time of the year.

The antelope are in stunning condition.

BTW,Eric at Uri wants to know if you are ignoring him now that you have got a caravan.

Hi Enrico, thank you for the response, it is really appreciated.

I will never ignore any friend from KTP. I wanted to pop in at Uri during my visit in March but know how "tourists just popping in" disturb the peace and quite of the Wilderness camps so gave it a miss. I have on the other hand a reservation for 4 days at Uri in March next year.

What's going on with the weather in the KTP? From my side, it looks like you are getting frequent rain?

You might just catch the end of the rainy season Shaheen, but it will be getting cooler at night, possibly quite cold.
