Good morning from a rather cold Kgalagadi.

Last night we have seen some amazing thunderstorms all around the park with some heavy rains (unfortunately none at Twee Rivieren camp).

The feedback I just had from Felix999 who is returning from the park today is that it's still VERY dry all over.
Are the rains just late this year, or is there a real chance that the rainy season will pass without much rain this year? What effect will this have on the wildlife?

Hmn, Morkel, I asked myself that same question :hmz: Seasons come and go and change every year, perhaps the rains they have had to date is all they are going to get??? Nobody knows I suppose. No rains or late rains either way will have an affect some way or the other. We will only notice as the seasons change. This is what makes KTP what it is.....an INCREDIBLE place !!!!

We returned yesterday and it is quite dry, but some clouds yesterday and we drove back in a light drizzle from TR to Upington, so hopefully some rain in the park too.

Hi Ndloti,

Good to hear from you again. Those rainfall figures do look depressing.
Question: is that for the full month of February? Reason why I ask, is because I am in charge of the weather office station at Helderberg College in Somerset West. They give 13mm for Feb, and we have had close to 50mm this month (last 35mm fell about 10 days ago). So is this an accurate indication of the monthly averages....?

Still desperately looking for more info on Mata Mata as I leave on a trip there with a bus load of school kids 7 days from now....

Thanks so much, and God bless,

Friedrich von Horsten
