Morkel,

Unfortunately the part of the road just before Rooiputs waterhole has been closed where the contractors are working on, BUT we have made provision for n two track road joining the Botswana road which can be taken enabling guests to drive from Twee Rivieren to Kij Kij waterhole / Rooipouts camp site.

KG

I am visitng the park for the first time at the begining of April, so dont know the roads at all.
Our first camp is at Rooiputs, so do we need to take the road described above to get there from Twee Riviere?

I also heard that the Nossob Twee Riviere road is under maintenance - is this road open, and if not what is the alternative?

@Imax,

Correct, the Road mention is still under construction, an alternative route has been made available on the Botswana side which runs parallel with the road which is being upgraded.
You will find where the road has been closed there is a two track road to your right (coming from Twee Rivieren). This track runs all the way to Kij Kij past the Rooiputs campsite, this detour can be taken without a permit from the Botswana side.

Hope it helps.

KG

Having driven the road between Twee Rivieren and Kij Kij a number of times over the past two weeks, via the Botswana road,I would like to ask the folowing question.
Why have two roads that appear to run about 50 metres apart?

The road on the South African side is significantly lower than the one in Botswana and will be more affected by heavy rain.
There still appears to my untrained eye,to be a lot of work to be done before the RSA road can be put into service.
Can the Botswana road not be upgraded to the same standard as the other roads in KTP and let the bush reclaim/rehabilitate the South African road?

KTP is after all a transfrontier park, sharing the animals.
Why not share a road?

Hi there Enrico,

The S.A. road to Kij Kij is the main tourist road with the Botswana track being the responsibility of the Botswana wildlife department to upkeep in good condition. If a decision was ever made to rehabilitate one of the roads it would be the Botswana road as it would rehabilitate much faster.

Unfortunately the S.A. wildlife department has no say over the Botswana roads and the two track will be in use for a long time still to come.

With the new contractors busy on the S.A. road, they are working at quite a speed to finish the road, even with the Botswana road being slightly higher the S.A. road would be more stable and would not wash away during the rainy season as what currently the problem is with the Botswana two track.

Hi KG.
Many thanks for your reply.
The stretch between Leeudril and Kij Kij past Rooiputs was new to me and I found it very interesting and scenic.

hello aidan3333 and welcome -- sorry no-one got to your question ...

I know next to nothing about the car except the picytures on the internet

First of all -- if it is not a 4X4 the answer is no -- and my worry would be that it doesn't look as though it has enough ground clearance :hmz: Especially for the Bitterpan road ...

Hopefully someone who kinows the vehicle will answer ......
