We hope to spend four days in the Richtersveld next year august.

We will be entering the park at the Aussenkher gate, do we have to travel alll the way to Senderlingsdrif camp when we check in. We would like to stay at tatasberg the first two nights - that would be a big 10 hr roundtrip!

Our plan is to spend 2 days at tatasberg and 2 days at senderlingsdrif before making our way to Kgalagadi -does that sound reasonable?

Thanks!

Hi HawkI,

I do hope I did understand your question.

Quote:
The quickest way to get to the Park from N7 (RSA) and B1 (Namibia) is to turn off at Steinkopf and approach via Port Nolloth and Alexander Bay with only the last 80km being on dirt.

For those wishing to vary their route and get a broader picture of the |Ai-|Ais/Richtersveld the road from Vioolsdrift, via Kotzehoop, through spectacular scenery to Eksteenfontein and then on to Sendelingsdrift is one well worth traveling. (If you take this route please respect the interests of the Kotzehoop farmers whose crops are affected by the dust from speeding vehicles.)

Quote:
Admission and overnight permits must be obtained at the park office at Sendelingsdrift before entering the park.

How to get there

Aussenkher is on the Namibia side, and as far as I know the only way you can enter the park from Namibia is via the pond at Sendelingsdrift.

Hi Hawk from where are you travelling? We are also going to Richtersveld and Kgalagadi next year but still need to decide on how to get there. Our problem is that the pont might be closed due to flooding in March/April, but in August you should be fine to enter Namibia at Sendelingsdrift.

We are traveling from Mpumalanga and do not plan to enter Namibia, due to possible food and wood restrictions into Nam and back to SA. There are no shops after entering SA at Sendelingsdrift and best to play safe, than getting your meat confiscated.

Going to Kgalagadi should not be a problem to stock up in the park or outside near TR, but I need to check up what is allowed in and out again when crossing into Namibia.
