Hi there, can someone please assist me with information on the border costs for entry into Botswana from SA. We're going to enter at McCarthy's Rest to go to Mabua for a few days and exit at Nossob, then re-enter at Polentswa for the Wilderness trail, then exit at Polentswa 3 days later.
We've paid for our bookings and conservation fees, but need to work out how much Pula to take with i.r.o. border costs for us and our vehicle.
Can anyone assist me with detailed info please?
Thanks

Luikatjie,

Its P230 for a car and trailer. You only pay for your vehicle and not per person. Just in case your credit card does not work at Tsabong take along along about P1000 for petrol/diesel. Its less than R10/liter for diesel, a bargain compare to Nossob prices.

Son Godin,

Am I assuming right that this then includes road the transport permit, National Road Safety fee and the Third-Party Insurance?

Thanks Son Godin. I would also like to know if it includes all the costs mentioned above, and also if we'll have to pay that once-off when we enter at McCarthy's Rest or again when we re-enter Botswana at Polentswa a few days later. Thanks.

Luikatjie

This is the fees as per the AA, but I am not sure if it is 100 up to date:

P50 – RTP Road Permit (P90 charged if a return trip – P50 is for a single entry) P20 – NRF Road Fund - Safety Token (valid for 1 year - The P20 tax is paid yearly & expires on the 31st December each year (charges can only be paid in Pula – P20 will also be charged on a trailer) 3rd Party Insurance P50 – Motor Vehicle Insurance (valid for 90 days)

Imax and Luikatjie,

I am not sure about the exact breakdown but we paid P230 in July 2014 at Martinsdrift border post. They might have incorrectly charged us for a return trip or more due to the fact that our visit exceeded 14 day. Its a bit difficult to argue with a border post official and you rather pay up or don't enter.

You only pay it once unless you exit and return to Botswana. KTP is a transfrontier park so technically you remain in Botswana until you exit through a SA border post, which is only in Twee Rivieren. No border post at Nossob or Polentswa.

Not sure if you will be able to exit at Mata-Mata without a stamp at Twee-rivieren, therefore if you do plan this route rather stop at Twee-rivieren and save the cost of returning.
