Hi esmith,

The last I know of the minimum age was 12 years old.

At a stage they did accommodate a family with smaller children by booking out the whole game vehicle to them

here

BUT as you can see quite an old posting, so not sure whether still available.

Hi esmith,

If you read the Important Notes HERE, you'll see that No children under the age of 12 is allowed at any of the park’s Wilderness camps.

I think the same age will apply to game drives? :hmz:

Although, in addition to the above, also read here: Kgalagadi Information Page.

Maybe you should contact Kgalagadi Guru to make absolutely sure?

Hilda,

The fact that child rates were quoted by KG means children younger than 12 can go on game drives. A person older than 12 is seen as an adult and needs to pay adult rates. We were on a game drive in Dec and children younger than 12 were allowed. Even on the Nossob 4x4 trail children younger than 12 years are allowed and no age restriction.

Thanks for the confirmation Son godin! I found Kgalagadi Guru's post from 2012 compared to the latest activity prices confusing where it clearly states no children under 6 are allowed on game drives:

Kgalagadi Guru wrote:Morning Guys,

Herewith the new prices for the standard activities in Kgalagadi:

Morning / Afternoon Walks R 290,00 per person
Game drives (Morning, Sunset & Night) R 170,00 Adults, R 85,00 Children
Full Day drives R 290,00 Adults, R 170,00 Children
Exclusive Private drives. R 170,00 Adults, R 85,00 Children

* No Kids under 12 years allowed on the walks. (Minimum 2 people)
* No kids under 6 years on game drives (Except the Exclusive private drive) (Minimum 2 people).
* Full Day Drive - No kids under 6 years. (Minimum of 4 people).
* Exclusive Private Drive - No age restriction - minimum of 5 adults.

For more information please do not hesitate to contact me at jan.kriel@sanparks.org

But since you have recently done a game drive with children younger than 12 years on the drive as well, I suppose the above-mentioned quote is no longer valid.

Thanks again for the confirmation.

Hi Hilda,

KG's post refers to no children on walks only, but children between 6 - 12 years are allowed on game drives. The kids on our drive were all older than 6 years. Maybe its the part about the walks that is confusing.

I amnot sure if the !Xerry trail is still running, but in that case you must be older than 16 to participate.

Thanks for the update on the prices.

rules are one thing, how these rules are applied another:

in theory children younger than six years are not allowed on guided drives - personally, I've been on game drives with children younger than six quite a few times...staff at the reception does not really seem to care and even if they did, if an adult walks up there and books a drive for a family with kids, how could they check if these kids are all older than six? And once this family shows up at the truck, no guide will send them back (although I know that KG has to bite on his teeth in situations like this)
