Lopis has a dog spray that keeps dogs from urinating on your tyres, for the past 5 years I had no problems in KTP, Kruger and various other parks at all, with peeps losing mudflaps and tyres around me.

And it is environmentally friendly.

The rural folks in Zambia experienced problems with elephants that raided their crops. The someone suggested smearing hot chilly paste on the fence around the huts. It worked like a bomb. I am sure that it will also keep lions and hyenas away from munching your tyres. All wild animals have got a keen sense of smell and will always 'test' an object before making the first bite. Hot chillies will deter them before they even start biting.

We do NOT have an Isuzu Picnic! That's why we could have a problem!

The 'Marie's' lions were probably the ones that we encountered at Rooikop, the next waterhole towards Nossob. After trashing the pump and playing with the ball valve, they fancied our tyres. I knew this and drove off before the naughty boy could get to us, but he got to the guy behind and tried to bite/swat his tyres as he moved off.

The Kwang pride, to the north, is known to love camping bits attached to the vehicle and pull them off.

Kgalagadi can be fun.....

Hey Heksie, get your broomstick there. Just don't park it near the real lions, or you might have your 5-speed gearbox destroyed.

Hi Mistral

So it was you who was next to us in Urikaruus :D The hyenas got our number plate that night - all that jaques found of it was the plastic holder with a few teeth marks .... think the number plate is decorating that new den of theirs 1km south of Urikaruus

.... and to make you  we saw caracal between 13th and 14th

According to Scipio it is a sin to waste that hot Chillie Paste

Hilda, it is just called Lopis Dog Spray, you can buy it at a pet shop

You can always scrape it off the next morning and use it again. The chillies will camouflage any rubber taste.

Friends of mine visited last year and they forgot to close one window. The spotted dogs chewed up their front seats, which wasnt a huge suprise, but it meant that they are now paying more for insurance. But anyway, doom or something similar has always worked for us

The hinged lid and light fitting on my towbar was in 5 pieces behind the X-Trail on our last night at Urikaruus in October 2011. And my neighbour had his plastic towbar covers mauled.

The Ranger on duty seemed aware of the problem and advised that I remove the plastic coverings from mine as the hyenas enjoy biting them (my neighbour arrived too late for the advice!!).

Didn't help though :wall:

I only wonder when SANParks will do exactly what they did at Kalahari Tented Camp, and for the same reason, and that is enclose the vehicles with fencing....they are already under the chalets and fencing with a gate would be simple....
