Hello everybody!

We saw them twice in January ( in the Dalkeith waterhole area), but were very disappointed to miss them in may. Many people told us they saw them both, in the Kalahari tented camp area!

They can easily be recognised, as the mother has a big collar with a transmitter.

I would love to see the cub grow up trough pictures and stories you might have.
So please, update this thread if you can :D !

Here are the pics of our first meeting (January 2008). The cub had skin problems (bites?). So we named it Skinny!
Maybe it was given another official name? We don't even know if it's a "HE" or "SHE"!!!

End may just after the turnoff to Kalahari Tented Camp on the road to Mata Mata.
Laying on a red dune, next to the road.
btw, heard a rumour a week later at Twee Rivieren that she was killed by a leopard :?

Bert, I hope it was only a rumor.
Perterbee and others say they saw them later.
Perter, please, post your latest pics, so I can be reassured :( !

Very sad if this is true. Unfortunately Pikasso, I saw her late April and then a week later, both times at a springbok kill with mum, just south of Craig Lockhart

I don't understand who might have been killed. The mum or the cub?
You both use "she", is the cub a female?

Spotted the two cheetah about 3 km from the Kalahari tented camp turn-off on 18/19 April. Then both mom and cub were in good health, looking well fed.

I have just spoken to Dr. Mills- whilst it is true that one of the collared males was killed by a leopard some time ago, the female in question (and her cub) still alive and well...

Received this from Kgalagadi TFP

Thanks Bert, you are a star! I am sorry to hear about the male cheetah, and at the same time glad mom and cub are still alive and well - a catch 22 if there ever was one.

Great idea Pikasso. We didn't see them but a friend spotted then the week before at Craig Lockheart.

Peter it's a stunning photo with the cub looking like it has been in moms make-up bag - lipstick and all.

 happy that they are well after all, even if it's an every day fight for life out there!
The day we left KTP (June02), we spoke to a nice couple from Pretoria. The day before they saw a jackal with the head of a cheetah in his mouth  ! Maybe the male cheetah you are talking about?

But hey!, no answer to my question: the cub is "he" or "she"?

Ok, so when you, English speaking people, say "she", it's for all cheetahs?

One more from January, so that everybody knows "who" we'are talking about!

News from Reddune ............

"The picture of the Cheetah with the radio collar was taken at 12h12 on 23rd May.

Should you be coming from the south . . . pass the Kalahari Tented Camp's turnoff . . . and continue to Mata Mata . . . . there is a very awkward blind rise approx 500 meters from the turn off . . . the Cheetah and cub was lying about 10 meters
off the road on the right-hand side . . . on the top of the rise. "
