Hi - This is a query from my SO - we are used to going to Kruger and this is our first trip to KTP and she wants to know whether the main camps have washing machines and driers as Kruger does - Reason is that we are camping and it will cut down on the number of clothes we have to take. :D

Also from me - what other CAMPING sites are available between TR and Nossob and must you book at TR on arrival?

I have booked a basic itinerary - see below which we may change once we get there.

PS - Have Defender 4 x 4

Hi DSouter :) - we'll be in Mata Mata on 19-20th Sep so keep the yellow ribbon flying and we might pass you on the road

The are no other SANPark camping sites between TR and Nossob but I believe that there are on the Botswana side ... not sure how you go about booking them though. I am sure that there are many adventurous mites who will be able to give you the info ..... and I am sure that the info is somewhere on the Arid parks section (although I can't remember where I read it :( )

@ DSouter,

There are only handwash facility and washing lines to dry clothes at all the main camps. Your internary looks good, but If possible maybe change Gharagab to Grootkolk. Remember you cannot tow a trailer to Gharagab. The road is also one-way therefore the shortest game drive will always be a circle route of 101 km including ~ 60 km of 4x4 driving. If you are looking for quiet time and do not want to drive out much its not bad, but I would prefer only to stay for 1 day at Gharagab, while at Grookolk as long as possible because of the easy excess to the main Nossob Union End road.

Your time at Mata-Mata is a bit short and I agree with Picnic that you need to add a few days. I again book only along one route per visit, e.g. in Dec 2011 only stayed at Nossob, but for a first time visit try more time at Mata-Mata or the wilderness camps like Urikaruus or Kalahari Tented Camp.

Other options are Botswana side, e.g. Rooiputs or Polentswa, but the facilities are very basic and its also open to animals crossing through the camp.

Hello DSouter,

Agree with picnic and PRWIN -- try to change to go straight from Nossob (on the 16th) to either MataMata or Kalahari Tented camp (no camping tho'). It will give you a couple of extra days in that area.

Just don't expect Kruger-like facilities esp with regard to the shops

Tell your SO not to worry too much about extra stuff -- a quick rinse in the evening & it is often dry by morning unless it is very cold overnight.

Have a great trip

Hi Guys & Gals

Thanks for the info - Being our first time to KTP I wasn't sure where to book so as I do at Kruger I booked a selection of spots with the intention of changing if necessary when we get there - Only problem is there was no accomodation at Grootkolk so had to take Gharagab - luckily we love peace and quiet and don't mind driving around a bit.

The trip was therefore based with gharagab in mind but we are not used to staying in one spot for very long but then at Kruger you have a greater selection of roads to choose from.

We are looking at this trip as a leaning curve and from what eveyone has to say on the forum it will be a wondrous place to learn.

Cant Wait.

"with the intention of changing if necessary when we get there". Well, you might run into a little disappointment there. This is not Kruger, bookings are done waaaay beforehand (as you probably noticed) and cancellations are rare. But you can hope for them.
If there are any try to get into Urikaruus or Kieliekrankie. The sightings at the Oouab are the best, and it is an easy drive or wait at the waterholes.

As for laundry, remember that the air is really dry, so the laundry will be dry in a jiffie. ;)

Thanks p@m... don't have too many more worthwhile campsite pics, but here's one of the "watched" becoming the "watchers"....at Nossob campsite (March 2009).
