Hi,
Can anyone give me an indication of the current flow rate at the falls. Last year (2014) it peaked in late March. What is the prediction this year? Need to time the visit!!

Surfer,

We are going end March and hoping for lower flow rates and river levels in the Richtersveld. Try this sight, but real difficult to get info and prediction.

https://www.dwa.gov.za/hydrology/

Graph of Daily flow at Upington. In March 2014 flow was ~ 1000 cubic m / sec

Dear Surfer,

Please check out this website on a regular basis https://www.dwaf.gov.za/Hydrology/

As you are aware, the flow rate of the falls is heavily reliant on the rainfall and there is currently a shortage of rain.

According to Park Management at Augrabies Falls a flow rate between 300 and 500 cumecs will ensure a spectacular view but the current flow is a mere 50.06 cumecs.

Regards,
Nadia

Thanks NadiaL and Son godin.

I see I was using the old .dwaf link instead of the .dwa

Enjoy Richtersveld Son godin. One of the parks I still need to get too.

I see that the predicted flow rate of the Orange river pass Upington will decrease dramatically in the next week to below 10 cumecs. Could this be related to any hydropower development around the Orange river or is it only due to low rain fall in the eastern parts of the country and Lesotho?

Hey Son Godin,

I'm of the opinion it can be attributed to the latter.
