We have booked and we thought paid in full for 2 weeks in the Kgalagadi in March/April next year. We received this 'deposit request letter' instead of the confirmation:

"Balance Outstanding : 0.01
The balance of R 0.01 is payable before 13/05/2013, failing which SANParks reserves the right to cancel the
reservation."

Basically we have to come up with 1 cent by the end of the weekend or our reservation could be cancelled. This is absolutely priceless and classic.

I regularly have "statements" from a couple of companies I have dealt with saying Amount due:0:00 if this is not paid within the allotted time interest will accrue and be added to your account .

Is 1c still legal tender in SA???? Everytime one tries to buy something and the total ends in 99c - the change is 5c as it is rounded down. But then, in this case..........a computer is involved - 'nuff said?

Around October last year I had an amount of 36c to pay on a booking and the gate official was very upset that I only handed over 35c. She told me the balance would not be right at the end of the day and the extra 1c had to be paid. Fortunately I actually had a 1c coin that somebody had given me in place of a 10c coin at one point. I handed it over and she was happy! It got rid of the problem coin from my purse too, so I was also happy.

Incidentally these days prices are often rounded down to nearest multiple of 10 as even 5c coins seem in short supply.

Haha I have occasionally had letters in the past from SARS stating that my business account is R0.01 in credit and to make the adjustment the following month. When you think what it has cost them to generate a 3 page letter, put it in an envelope and post it all for one cent, the mind boggles!

Send them the 1 cent in an envelope without a postage stamp

Do you think we could look at this slightly differently... SANParks are not "rounding down" as they should like others do Perhaps you should send them a bill, they OWE you 4 cents!!

On my first year as a tax payer many years ago, I also owed the RofR 1cent. Luckily I worked not far from their building and stood in a queue to pay it.

Savvy rules nowadays, and they carry over trivial amounts (both ways) to the next year.

But there are still some doff companies out there (most of them ). The one I work for allocated me an increase percentage for 2012 that increased my annual salary to Rxx.29 per annum. That is not divisible by 12, so I got Ryy.44 per month leaving 1 cent unpaid. 1c is neither here nor there, but it is the principle. They didn't pay me what my official salary notification stated. How many others did this happen to and where did the excess go to, after all, they should balance somehow.

I have asked personnel to look into it. Petty - of course, but I am precise. I work in IT and make it my job to get things to balance, so why must others be 'slapgat'.

Just received my booking which I did on line and I paid in full but it also shows an outstanding balance of R0.01. I phone central reservation and they informed me I must pay the 1c at reception when we book in. Now to find a 1 cent coin.
