Hi, i actually think the jackal who killed the springbock was the female...

Also, we were informed by a gentleman driving up north that there was an injured springbock being followed by jackals, so we think that initially he wasn´t wounded by the jackal.

Hello Afkpuz -- I'm sure Jannie will chime in here when he's not so busy, but as far as I am aware, a jackal will try to hamstring its prey (or sever the achilles tendon) so that it cannot run away. Then it is just a matter or tiring it out until it collapses. The only positive for us humans is knowing that the adrenalin levels of that springbuck were so highy that it felt minimal pain

Good evening everyone.

KTP has been really good to my friend MArio and me on our last trip this January.

It seems we stumbled upon a formely unkown Leopard which we met twice, one time together with Miera ( as mentioned in the Leopard identification topic).

The time we met "her" (i´ll assume it is a female for now) she was lying next to the road at the intersection with the lower dune road ( almost same spot as the encounter together with Miera).
After a while she went up on the ridge, sniffing here and there from time to time, while moving down south.
She eventually crossed the road and moved up to the other riverside, where she spotted a bat-eared fox and killed it.

She then took it under a tree and began to eat it.

It was a very intense experience, which somehow we managed to get on video.

Awesome video of a once in a lifetime sighting Denis. I can understand the excited voices. I know it's nature but can't help feeling sorry for the Fox. Thank you for sharing this thrilling event.

She must be very young as she has not quite learnt the art of killing quickly. I have seen a female leopard in Sabi Sands kill a full grown male impala quicker than this!

Wonder if it is the mother or father of the baby foxes that were seen in the area during Dec?
