We have been in the Dec months and Feb and although very HOT we LOVE it! Found camping to be much cooler than the chalets at Nossob and Mata Mata, however, each year it's different. Sure you'll enjoy it , no matter where/how you stay :)

Hi Ed,

We had the option of staying for 3 nights in a chalet last Dec but after 2 nights changed it to camping. Much cooler. I guess you from Vierlanden area then or new section closer to Fisante kraal. Love this area but now stuck in the old Transvaal.

I did a TR of our trip in Dec last year and should give you an idea on what to expect.

Yep, Vierlanden is my valley, just love it here!

Will check out your TR, thanks again!

Just a note to those travelling to KTP from JHB via Potch...a couple of stop-goes east of Potch. My folks just got back end of last week-these stop-goes added an hour onto their travelling time. They weren't there on the way to the park. Hopefully they won't be around too long!

To all you guys camped out at Urikaruus this month...very jealous!!! Enjoy!

Hi guys,

Can someone perhaps recommend a nice spot to stay over in Upington ? Preferably somewhere with a pool to keep the kids busy.....

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi. How much further is the road from Cape Town to TR via Springbok. Just reading about 18 stop and go's, at 5 minutes a stop, thats another 90 minutes of waiting. Thanks.

Hi Touareg

The route via Tankwa Karoo is the shortest according to my calculations. But it is a little slower because about 300km is on gravel.

Via Calvinia I was advised the route is shorter to Upington by 100km than via Springbok. Having very recently done this route (to via Tankwa and back via Calvinia) we found (as rjm says), although the endless roadworks, the wait at each one was not too bad. There is not much traffic on the road, so often we were stopped for 30 secs to check the road was clear and allowed through.

Thanks DinkyBird. I guess I will stick to the trusted Calvinia route.
