damned , they're fully booked. anyone has a good advice?

Just google car hire in upington - there are a few.
We did that road in a Pajero no problem. You must have a proper offroad 4x4 with high clearance. Its not technical - just a bit sandy - make sure your tires are nice and soft...

ps :do they deflate and reinflate the tyres in Twee rivieren petrol station?
ps : everybody agrees that Toyota Hilux is the best choice. what a bout a nissan Hardbody ? equivalent?

Any 4x4 like toyota or nissan will do.

The attendants at Twee rivieren petrol station will deflate it for you. Also, you realy need to make sure at the nossob service station what you deflate the wheels to if you gp to Bitterpan.

Also, you must inform Nossob what time you will be leaving for Bitterpan as they will do a calculated time of arrival at Bitterpan, because if that time expires, they will come and search for you

we may have the choice between a Hilux double cab and a DEFENDER. what is best?

Either is very good, : but my personal choice - Hilux Double Cab any day

Have a Freelander in the UK, but for the Khalagadi as mentioned above

Hilux - better (faster) on tar roads - reliable.
Defender - not so much...

Defender less bumpy on tracks.. but any 4x4 will do fine at the Bitterpan track, just back from the park (and Bitterpan). The exit road from Bitterpan towards Mata Mata did have some more challenging dunes. I did not lower the tyre pressure of my Defender Td5 though (which is however recommended) and only used low range once. With deflated tyres it would have been easier.

Bitterpan is a nice camp, Willem, the attendant did wake us up for lions drinking next to his hut. Later we did see a big male and a female drinking at the pan, nice :-) Will post some images at my blog soon.

no need of any feedback concerning Britz. they rent from joburg , cape town or Windhoek , not from upington.. grrr

No, but I've seen their vehicles in the park... As they are based in Upington that will help in case of a break down.

Just watch the quote / costs because you will be charged by the hiring company for the costs of the delivery driver to deliver and collect the vehicle to and from Uppington

Have you asked Corne if they can recommend someone else for you thats more local

The brand of vehicle is no issue - Tyre pressure is!! On sand keep good momentum with low tyre pressure - typically 1 bar or 1.2 at the most. Make sure you have a compressor for re-inflation. Re-check pressures once going, as heat plays a major role in the pressure.
