Thank you so much everybody for their prompt responses.

It was exactly the type of information I was looking for - just yesterday I was on YouTube learning how to start a braai fire!!!

Thank you again and now I can go to KTP with some peace of mind knowing I wont starve to death!!

WOW Blackie, not that's what I call a braai! Or a smoking braai
Just to add to the advice given above - Please switch all your lights off for a while, sit quietly outside, and look up! You will see the most amazing display of the night sky, satellites, milky way, southern cross - a sight that you won't see in the city. Especially Kieliekrankie lends itself to moon shots, if the moon is full.

Make sure the flames of your fire have died down before putting your meat on to braai, otherwise you'll have singed eyebrows trying not to cremate everything. Also make sure that the fire is doused before retiring to bed. The wind may blow a cinder onto the grass and start a fire. At the camps visitors are asked to keep the fires small, obviously to prevent veld fires, and also not to scare animals away too much. (read the rules displayed in your unit)

Buy some 'firelighters' to put amongst your wood, or light them first and then put your wood on.

Nossop, had to share some of the meat with the Jackals. They will take chances, but just be there. I would not worry too much.

Yes please, firelighters aka "Blits" and other brands go in the bottom, not on top.

Will the chalets have utensils for braaiing like long handled tongs or should we buy some?

Thanks,

R.

We only stayed in TR (the biggest camp), but we had everying needed for braaing, and as said before, all utensils and 2 hotplates .
KTP is better equipped than KNP IMHO.

If you buy your own, they can be used for many things back in Ireland.

Like putting coal on the fire :) . It's lashing outside again at the moment. Long winter this year. I have my own BBQ tongs which had two outings back in April. I just don't want to drag half the house with me when we come over. Cooking without the long handled stuff is okay but the smell of singed hair, burnt knuckles and finger tips is something I'm trying to avoid this year.
Cheers.
Will buy one and leave it behind for the next people if there is none. Otherwise it can come home and become our KTP tongs. :)

Having stayed at all the camps except Bitterpan on numerous occasions I have always found them to be adequtely equiped with all the crockery/cutlery/utensils you will need, including braai tongs.

Seeing as you are planning to come over in our winter I would suggest you purchase an inexpensive thermos flask in SA for your hot drinks on the early morning game drive.
Available at most supermarkets.

These are not supplied by the camps.

Hello.
just a question: do you know if Urikaruus, Kieliekrankie an Kgalagadi tented camp have plugs to charge battery of camera and laptop?
Thanks for your answers.
Bye, Luca.

Hi Luca - there is no electricity at these camps so there are no plugs to charge batteries. We use an inverter which plugs into the lighter in the car to charge all our batteries.

Yes, as icurrrie says, no electricity in these camps. You have to charge everything in your car.

Kitchen facilities at Kalahari tented camp and Garagab?? - describe please. Pics seem to show only fridge/ freezer and two plate gas stove. Is there a ribbed pan for grilling? and cast iron pot for pap? Are the tents serviced daily? 12V lights or gas lights? Any chance of charging facilities for camera batteries? Is the water in the taps safe for drinking but just very brak and upotable, or is it unsafe for human consumption?
Thanks in anticaption for your help.

Hi zephneb, you can also have a look here.(just click on here)
There are a pan, a pot and a braai on the deck. The water is not really good to drink.(take fresh water with)
The lights are solar powered. Get yourself a car charger for the batteries. Hope it helps.
