Norms, I managed to pop into the book binders at Fourways Crossing. They are a Swedish company and it is not what you are looking for. They did however give me a list of numbers that would be of assistance. I am going to pm the list to you.

I will save the list in my messages, so that anyone needing details can pm me.

There was a link on the forum to a website that hosts many second hand book shops in one , can anyone redirect me to it ?

I can't believe my luck

I had a meeting in Bryanston this morning. I decided to go and browse in a second hand book shop there. I have often picked up some lovely book bargains at this little shop.

The it was, "Memoirs of a Game Ranger", by Harry Wolhuter.

Its a paper back edition, but other than brown pages, in very good condition. Its a 1972 printing, by Collins.

Cost me the pricely sum of     R30.

Wow MM what luck!!
I have a 5th Edition, September 1955. Spine is worn but pages excellent condition and sleeve cover is a bit worn on corners. Not bad for a '55 model..!!!!!

Hard cover copies of the 70's cost in the region of R300 at the shops that know what they've got. Nice bargain.

I am so enjoying the book. From an historical perspective, it is priceless.

I am reading this book relishing every detail. I have allowed my daughter to read it in the meantime as I dread the day I finish it. I only have 2 chapters left :(

It is the most fascinating account of the early Park. It also gives insight into the harshness of life in the early days. Wolhuter comes over as an extremely dedicated and fair man.

I remember when I was studying that there were very strict copy right laws about books. This book is however out of print and difficult to get in any form.

When I went on my bushman's walk, I mentioned the book to our two guides. They were so keen to read it. Wolhuter worked a lot in that area. I decided that I would break the rules, I think break the rules :hmz: , and make copies of the books for the two guides. I was also sooooo impressed with these fellows.

I am not sure yet how I will do it, but I must have it ready by the 12th November, when I leave for the triple A challenge. I might scan it onto a disk and print it for them. If anyone is interested, I will have this available.

As I said, I am not sure of the legality, but this is a book worth reading, again and again and again.

I would have imagined it would be available at a book exchange .
I bought a newly printed edition in KNP about 21 yrs ago - so there must still be some around somewhere .

Mine is also about 21 years old and still in mint condition. I have exchanged many books which I have read but this one is locked up safely. I will give mine away after my last trip to Kruger which is about 100 years from now. So please be patient....

I took the newer of my 2 editions to read for the umpteenth time on a special breakaway last weekend to a place Wolhuter describes and where he often camped , what a perfect location to reminisce about the times and places of the legendary pioneer - Harry Wolhuter .
