I have just bought this book in a bookshop in Plett. I am sure it must be available in most large bookstores.

It is written by Bruce Bryden who worked in Kruger for 27 years and ..." is a collection of stories about the life of a bushveld conservationist as it is lived at the ground level by that elite band of men and women who guard the Kruger National Park..." The book was published this year (2005). It looks to me like a must on every forumites' Christmas list!

For those of you interested .. this excellent book by Jan Roderigues was translated into Dutch in 2002

The books name is "Mannen van de Wilderniss - authentieke verhalen van de Game Rangers in Afrika"

Go get it .. it's a great book about funny, sad and beautiful stories about the lives of the KNP Rangers ....

I think the English version of 'Die Veldwagters Vertel' is called 'The Game Rangers (Tales from the African Bush)', ISBN 0 62016 912 5.

The sequel, 'Die Veldwagters Vertel Verder' has also apparently been translated into English and is called 'The Silent Heroes of the African Bush', published by Beria Publishers in Pretoria, South Africa.

I assume you found this for SA, don't know of any where that stocks it in the UK, could you not have it delivered to an address in SA?

Hi Rosadeeuk..... I ordered the book from Kalahari and it took about 8 weeks to get to me. They did warn me when I ordered it on-line this would take some time. However it did arrive and I thoroughly enjoyed it....

I am currently reading this book and really enjoying it. Bruce Bryden has a wonderful way of writing and the book is full of humourous stories and some that make you realise just what our brave game rangers go through on a daily basis. His love for the bush is clearly seen in every page.

I bought This light entertaining book as holiday reading. Needless to say, there was little time for reading in the Park and I have only opened the book over the past couple of days.
It is a compilation of tales told by a group of rangers describing their experiences and misadventures in the bush.
There are delightful snippits of information and I would recommend it in particular to young people who are thinking of a career in the bush.
