I finished a Single Swallow and am now reading " The Hare with Amber Eyes" by Edmund de Waal which is a memoir spanning about two hundred years of de Waal's family as he follows the movement of a vitrine filled with 264 Japanese netsuke from one family member to another; doing so in the historical context of the relevant time.

Am reading another of Bernard Cornwell's historical epics, Harlequin

This is the first of the Grail Quest series. Not knowing this, I had read 1356, which is the last in the series :slap:

So I have gone back to the beginning and will read them in order

I've just finished Beauty Tips from Moose Jaw by Will Ferguson. Its a a sort of Bill Bryson type guide to Canada - entertaining, observant and full of interesting historical snippets. Ferguson, on various expeditions, crossed Canada from Victoria on the West Coast to L'Anse aux Meadows on the outer tip of the great Northern Peninsula of Newfoundland. His visit to a Spa in Moose Jaw is basically what gave the book its title and is wonderfully described from the point of view of a Man-who-doesn't-Spa.

Reading Unraveling the Rainbow by Richard Dawkins - its sort of 'homework' from my supervisor, but we tend to swop books we have enjoyed with each other. :)

Richard Dawkins is brilliant, unless he steps out of his comfort zone. :hmz:

Then he gets..umm :hmz: . closed.

About half way into The Man With the Black Dog by Mario Cesare

Got to be honest, I am a bit dissapointed.
Can't quite put my finger on why, but this book seems to be a bit lacking in something.

Have just finished Daughters-in-Law by Joanna Trollop. I do enjoy her clean, elegant prose and the way she builds up a fascinating story of relationships on a simple base, in this case, the marriage of a central character's youngest son. This is her newest book and I've read all the others, so now I must wait for the next treat!

Finished this on the weekend.
Got to be honest, it wasn't great. IMO it was lacking. Bits and pieces for me.

Anyhows.
I am now reading reading a book on the 1976 F1 season and the rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda (the exact name escapes me for the mean time).
Sort of a book version of the movie "Rush"

Am just about to start Are Trout South African? by Duncan Brown, a published local author, fly-fisherman, and Professor of English at UWA, which explores the question of what South Africanness really is, by applying it to trout which are actually an introduced species in South African waters. It had a good write-up and I heard him speaking about his book at a literary festival so I'm really looking forward to it.

I've just started "The Fall, The evidence for a Golden Age, 6000 years of insanity and the dawning of a new era" by Steve Taylor.

Next on the non-fiction list will be:
"Back to Sanity, healing the madness of our minds" also by Steve Taylor.
"From Science to God" by Peter Russell

Recent non-fiction:
"Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follet, which I thouroughly enjoyed.
"Fall of Giants" also by Ken Follet. A great and well researched novel.
I've enjoyed all the other Ken Follet titles I've read as well

Current fiction:
"Feast for Crows", the fifth book in George RR Martins series "Game of Thrones"
A bit wayout and too much violence at times, but I'm hooked.

Nice list Hawk.

Yoda, I have made it a principle to put down books I don't enjoy. There are too many good books to pick up instead.

I have just finished reading "The IQ book of the dead again" by John Lloyd and John Mitchinson. It is a book of lives, some known, some less known. Witty, well written and thought provoking.

Just starting Blood Rose by Cape Town crime author Margie Orford, who is brilliant. (Oh, and also reading the edits for my next novel)
