You up country lot always jump the gun. Mother Nature sends mild weather to fool you and the trees before she unleashes her final furious onslaught of winter.

Here in the Cape we have had 6 wonderful mild sunny windless winters days.

Please don't utter the "S" word again until late September. Mother is listening!

Up here in Limpopo it's been a long cool winter - no cold snaps as such but we're waiting and are prepared for them  Mango trees are sending out their blossoms and our pawpaw tree is terribly confused - delivered its usual fruit in May and has now new ones growing that should be ready before Christmas (if there's no snow/ice/frost)..........Weavers have been in full breeding plumage since early July and a Woodland Kingfisher was seen at the weekend - a couple of months early!

It snowed in Gauteng on 21 September 1986, so there is still a possibility that we may be in for a surprise or two.

This winter felt like a cool summers day to me here in Gauteng. It was never that cold. All the plants in the garden started to show new growth in July already.

True Rooies. Maybe our winter is delayed this year :hmz:.

I am always aware that a cold front will happen. What makes it different is the realization that it is not going to be followed by months of cold weather.

I am still waiting for a cold front. This last ''cold front'' was not very cold at all.

I am hearing the call of the thick knees in the dark pre-dawn hours. This morning I heard the call of my little brown headed kingfisher.

As I look at my bird feeder, I see more flashes of yellow. 8)

And in case that is not enough to convince you, we are sending more up from the Cape this week. It is a lovely cold windy winter's day here today.

Spring is just a dream down here yet.

We had heavy snow last week , and all the mountain-peaks are still topped with it , but down here on ground-level lots of daisies welcoming and smiling whenever there is warmer weather :D

Going up to the "koue bokkeveld " tomorrow to see what its like there

Came back yesterday from the Wartrail area, Eastern Cape. Ben Macdhui and surrounding peaks have a light sprinkling of snow. Although it was very cold in the low lands, the peach and pear trees are full in bloom and hundreds of sweet new born lambs everywhere. 8) We even had quick thunderstorm with lightning and a little bit of rain on Sunday evening. Maybe the moisture will bring more snow. 8) Driving back, the Lesotho Mountains have lots of snow. 8)
