Personally I have one of those small axes under the set of the car. Axe, Hammer and crewbar in one combo. And yes I know who to use it........

We have 2 cooler boxes. One is used for all our drinks (Water,Beer,Juice, etc) and for all the other things that need to be in a fridge (Margarine,Mayonnaise,Cheese etc), we buy 2 to 3 bags of ice a day to keep these things chilled. Our other cooler box is for our meat, chicken, bacon etc. All our meat etc is normally vacuumed packed and has been frozen prior to our trip. We also collect silver bags from box wine during the year and we fill them with water (only half) and we freeze them also prior to the trip. The morning we leave for the Kruger we pack the cooler box for the meat in layers. First 2 frozen silver bags then pkts of meat etc then another layer of silver bags, more meat and then the last layer is normally 2 silver bags. This cooler box of ours is only opened once a day to take out the days meat, we normally leave it in our trailer in the shade and after 14 days in the park the silver bags have defrosted but not totally and the meat left in the cooler is still cold.

Good excuse tent dweller, for consuming copious quantities of box wine throughout the year. The real intent for buying box wine is to get hold of the silver bags.  Clever you :D Is there any good use for an empty brandy bottle? (I must convince my wife)

Empty brandy bottles can be used as a vase

Tent dweller you are very organised Kruger goers :)

Tomato sauce with mieliepap tip: We add chopped peppadews to the tomato and onion sauce when we have mieliepap with our braaivleis in the evenings. It tastes good.

You should try adding a banana (all squished up) to the tomato and onion sauce. Tastes great

Tentdweller, would that be Makro for the small milk sachets?
I'm sure others would also like to know!

Those little milk portions must be very handy. Likewise we buy the small portions of butter that a person gets in a box – I think they are 5g each. It is the same as those butter that a person get at the restaurant. They sell it at all the big supermarkets at the butter and margarine counter. It is easy to pack a few for the picnic spot or to use where a person stays in the Camp as it is waste free and do not take a lot of space. A person gets jam also in small pots- one portion per little pot, if you like toast and jam at breakfast at the supermarkets. They are available in different kinds of jam as well – marmalade, strawberry, apricot etc….

Jeanni we usually use fresh tomato, onion and garlic to make the sauce or a tin of tomoato and onion mix with more fried onion/garlic. I see some people mix in a tin of chakalaka relish that a person now get in the shops in their sauce as well :P .

Please do remember that the smaller sachets and the smaller 'one man' packages create more refuse than the 'family' size product.

Very true Rooies. We take our meat frozen to Kruger. We wrap each packet in newspaper before we put it in the cooler bag. The meat stays frozen for much longer that way.
