Sanparks bucket list

Unread postby Meandering Mouse » Wed Oct 09, 2013 6:54 am

I was looking at Kaapsedraai's thread on the wilderness area. When I saw the pictures of the canopy tour, I thought, I want to do that.

Too much to do and sooooo little time.

Do you have a bucket list, a Sanparks bucket list?

Mine is:

Canopy tour
Every camp in Kruger
New year at Grootkolk
Olifants backpack trail
Sand river bush camp.... again and again and again.
Celebrating a birthday with my family at Mapungubwe.
The bird doesn't sing because it has answers, it sings because it has a song.

:D

1) A visit to Tankwa Karoo (the Karoo is a magical place)
2) Celebrate 2014 New Year in the West Coast National Park
3) Have sufficient leave and money to visit Kruger 4 times a year

My retirement trips:

1. A tour of South Africa staying in every SANPark that I can. Richtersveld may be one step too far for this non-camping, non- 4-wheel driver Brit

2. A tour of Kruger staying 7 days in each camp.

Oh dear, we are kindred spirits, are we not?

My bucket list is just filling up with new ideas.

Grantmissy, add mine to that one too.

I'm having problems planning my retirement trips, I'm spending way to much of my retirement funds on non-retirement trips....... :wall:

Richtersveld is very high on my Bucket list.

Golden Gate in the winter a must do for me.

And to have enough money and time to be able to visit Kgalagadi at least once a month for a week!!!

Firstly, a set of new knees for me so that I can do the wilderness trails. I did a 70 km march at the Letaba ranch north of Phalaborwa, but that was on instructions of General Magnus Malan, so no enjoyment there.

The Karoo and Richtersveld is on the menu, for the rest, I have got all the T-shirts.

But having said that, I have got enough buckets full of lists for one place only and that is oom Paul's place.

Gosh - SOO MANY! (& Too Little money  )

~Visit Marakela, Mapangubwe, Kgalgadi, & Richtersveld for the first times.
~Revisit (staying overnight) West Coast, Camdeboo, MZNP, Augrabies, Mokala and Namaqua.
~See Kruger in every season - still need Jan-April; Late Aug-Early Oct.
~One day, do the Nyalaland Trail
    ~Work for SANParks
~(Not strictly SANParks) - see National Parks further North of SA
~(Not strictly SANParks) - see more of the rest of the World!
I added the last two because I suspect that the reason I love travelling so much has its roots with my parents taking me camping to various National and Provincial Parks as a kid. I was very lucky and privileged to be able to join them on field work and experience the bush even more intimately than most 'tourists' often get to.
