A lion killed a man on a game farm in Zeerust on Monday night, North West police said on Tuesday.

The lion emerged from the bushes and pounced on 42-year-old Petrus Malgas at the Rietfontein game farm as he walked to a store-room to fetch his lunchbox at 6pm, said Marico police spokesperson Constable Bontle Diphiko.

Malgas, a worker on the game farm, was on his way home.

Although the owner of the farm rushed him to Zeerust Hospital, he was certified dead on arrival.

Malgas had sustained a lacerated artery and injuries to his scalp and face, she said. - Sapa

Thanks for that valuable bit of info. It's sad and my condolences to the family.

It just shows how powerful these animals are ... they can take down buffalo and in some areas juvenile elephants ... humans will never be a challenge for them.

W@H in Chobe there is a pride of Lion that specialises on Elephants and they have taken down fully grown 4 ton Ellies.

Makes Harry Wolhuter so much more of a special guy...

I have a very unpleasant short .wmv file of a man who is attacked and killed by lions. It was shot 18th Feb 1975 at the Angola border...A troop of lions is around his car. The man gets out to take a closer look...Than attacked from behind...
The rest you can gues...

It is unpleasant, but he was stoopid. In Afrikaans we have a saying.

As jy dom is moet jy sukkel
*If you are stupid you need to struggle*

WTM, Harry Wolhuter was the guy that got attacked by a rabit Elephant in Chobe. The Elephant attacked him while he was fixing a puncture on his bicycle. As the Elephant was dragging him under his belly with his trunk he stabbed it 3 times and killed the elephant (The skin with the stab wounds and the knife are still hanging in the Skukuza shop). There was another elephant around so he climbed into a tree and tied himself to a branch with a belt. The Ellie discovered him and started pushing the tree over. Luckily a Lion came to chase the elephant and killed the Elephant. This is how we know there are Ellie killing Lions in chobe.

You should really brush up on your history

Zeerust.

{Where is the English version?}

Interesting to note how the 2 reports differ. In the Afrikaans one it is mentioned that he received meat as a daily ration which he hanged in a tree and when he went back to the tree at lunchtime it was there that the lions met up with him.

The English version states that he went to a store-room to fetch his lunchbox
