Wow this is going back a long time, my first trip with my parents was in my fathers Ford 20M, The vehicle that I use currently for the Kruger is my Ford Ranger DC v6 4lt automatic, heavy on fuel but awesome to drive

The kids just love been high up compared to low down with a small car. I also prefer this for the S roads.

We have a Jeep Rubicon and it makes viewing a pleasure, being so high up we see stuff others miss all the time, when surrounded by Lion recently I felt a lot safer being above them rather than eye level and when near Elephant I feel safer too because Our Jeep is silver and for some odd reason the colour and size does seem to annoy the elephant to much. plus after Mondays Ellie Push on the Atos I am feeling safer there too. Plus having back seats that flatten all the way means I can make a big bed in the back for my kids to lie & play in so we can view for longer without the usual "I don't have enough space" moans.

Added Bonus the Dirt roads are so much fun and we know there is pretty much no road we cant go down.

Best viewing car.

We've got a 12 year old Land Cruiser Prado VX that has about 300 000 kms on the clock. She has taken us to Namibia, Botswana, Richtersveld, Baviaans - has even survived the KTP roads on several occasions! Absolutely perfect for KNP - high up so good viewing; plenty of space for cool box (or boxes!) cameras, camera bags, binoculars, bird and various other wildlife books, enough room for the two of us and sometimes even a passenger - tows either caravan or off-road trailer wihout a murmur! Not the fastest on the block but then speed ain't needed in KNP

It'll probably give you at least 500000km before it will need to be put to rest, PNF. Super vehicles those.

I've been in Mercs, a Ford, and a Honda; but the weirdest trip I ever made was in a Camaro V8 5.7 litre: I even drove it on dirt roads, which was a bit crazy. It is not a vehicle made for slow driving, but at least I got home super-quickly after the trip!

if your in KNP any car is good cos without it you cant see much

Good point, Crackers. Although I wonder how safe I'd feel in those tiny little cars that offer protection against very little.

I use my Landy for most of my driving , also to Kruger , but you know , the old bones are starting to suffer somewhat from the long distance twice a year , so I am considering looking around for a " softer " vehicle , which may be more kind on the bumps and uneven roads
But , the question is : What other vehicle ?????

When I was just a sprog, my folks used to pile us into his little Renualt. I can't remember the model (it had vents on the "boot" where the motor was), but I do remember that it was really, really small.

We must have made my mom's life hell because we weren't exactly the "sit still" type of kid. I would never subject my wife to that sort of hellish confinement.

When we started going back to Kruger about ten years ago, I had a VW Microbus (the old sort), and we now go in our Vito.

The Vito has its advantages; it's very comfy for the driver and front seat passenger, but it's not at all nice for the poor kids etc. who're forced into the back. They only have a tiny window to look out of and the seats are the bucket type....pretty good for a trip down the highway, not so cool if you want to skootch around from one side of the car to the other.

No, the ONLY vehicle for the Kruger is the good ol' Microbus. Almost everyone has their own window, the seats are the bench type, you're high up, super comfy for the driver (me). And when one of the kids gets miffy or wants a quick forty, they can be banished / laid down to rest on the shelf over the engine.

In fact, I'm thinking of buying one just for our Kruger trips
