Hi there!

I think you all can tell a story about a nasty fellow, here is my story:

The other day we came to our riverside campsite, stood beside our car and enjoyed the riverview. It was more a feeling than seeing it, that something was going on in our back. When I turned around I saw a vervet monkey sitting on our car door, ready to enter the car. Both (red german) passports and my purse laid on the front seat. Luckily I could chase him away. It was a junior.

Later we left our table alone for just a minute and maybe the same junior, maybe another junior jumped along and stole our (green) lighter.

When I prepared our salad for dinner Junior showed up again – he desired our salad bowl, which was already unpacked. Successful…

Junior was so friendly to drop the bowl after a while.

First we thought he might be used to tourists feeding him. But we could eat whatever we wanted and he was not interested at all in our food. He just wanted to grap colourful and shiny things. :)

I'm looking forward to your stories. ;-)

That’s true. We also once had a Starling and 2 Bülbüls boarding our breakfast table before us, trying our tomatoes. And than there was this Oryx at the lodge which parked himself between two cars on the car park. Unfortunately I didn't take a picture of this.

  Could be.

But what did he want to say to us by steeling the salad bowl? :hmz: Vitamins are absolutely overvalued? :D

As we spend 6 months each year in South Africa, I consider myself fairly "bush savvie"

In 2009 we had friends staying with us from the UK.

We were at Tshokwane enjoying a chicken mayo toastie, when I noticed the resident monkeys gathering!!

I was warning our friends to be careful of the monkeys, as they could be very naughty, when all of a sudden my sarnie was snatched out of my hand!!!

I felt very silly!!!

:) Birdfriend those Krugerbaboons and monkeys and other rascals and critters can indeed be up to no good. At Nkhulu picnic spot they have made us "defend" our breakfast food many times. Their tactical skills to take from the human visitors are in the advanced category.

Last time we stayed at Crocodile bridge, they accosted us while we were loading the car. I basically had to stand at the car, holding a rock (that seemed to be enough to make them keep their distance) while hubby carried everything out of the bungalow

Shit happens, but a nice story.

Here I have two other bad critter-boys.

First playing around and having fun with each other, than suddenly boxing and annoying each other. When I look at their faces it must have hurt a bit.

Squirrel_asc they are very clever, those monkeys are real opportunists. They are not fond of :rtm: for proper conduct :)

Once in Olifants Camp the visiors next to us were unpacking their belongings and they put beer and a bag of apples on the verandah wall and before we could warn them :o the baboons were eating apples and drinking beer . The humans looked like this  and the baboons like this :P

We have monkeys living in our area. We have monkey proofed our house and take care not to leave them any chance to gain access to the house. They are very quick and cunning. Usually pointing a camera at them is a good way of chasing them off.
I must say that I love watching the troop when they are in our garden and I consider it a privilege to be able to enjoy some wildlife around our home.
