A wooly-necked stork Meerkitty - that's fantastic.

Oumie, love the squirrels but yes, agreed, the rats and mice become a problem at the feeder

We are on a farm in NWP not too far from Magaliesburg and had this beauty visit us on Saturday evening. Moved into the yard after this pic was taken and "vanished" under a plant just 20 steps from the patio Keep wondering where it might be



Then on Sunday morning, I was pleasantly surprised by this, while having coffee on the patio

The two Jacaranda trees in front of the house is still full of blooms , and two families of sunbirds ( one family of five Southern double banded sunbirds , and also a family of three or four Malachite sunbirds ) are flittering in it all day long, looking for nectar , hanging up-side down , chirping , sipping , chasing each other , through the branches and twigs , down to the ground , up again , catching the odd insect , now and then .
This afternoon , one of the SDC's flew into the house , through the kitchen door , down the passage , into the sitting room . I had to open all the doors and windows before he eventually saw an opening and left again .

There's a lot of bird activity in my garden at the moment. A new visitor is this female pied flycatcher - I've never seen one before so she's very welcome.

There are lots of goldfinches and the youngsters are still begging to be fed.

The house martins are everywhere, practising their flying. It amazes me that ornithologists still don't know where they migrate to exactly.

a Christmas visitor.

what a chance MM... what a chance

Last night before I went to bed I heard a few soft "whoo"s that indicated that the Spotted Eagle Owls had come to visit again, hunting in the field behind my garden.
Even though I was in my nighties, I just had to go see them!

Isn't it wonderful to have all the bird noises back again?

My bird feeder has gone from dull brown and grey to yellow, red and black.

I dream of one here...

How fantastic to have such wonderful wildlife next door, MM!
We have a field of winter barley next to our house which is being harvested at present and the buzzards are circling overhead hoping for a meal.
