I had a cat that seemed allergic to certain cat pellets ( all good brands ) and there was only one that seemed to work .. He used to loose all his furr and was left with a soft down underneath .. But when on his usual diet he had thick fur .. He of course was a great ratter but that didn't seem to cause problems .
Gess has her pellets and always gets an uncooked chicken neck in her dinner at night .. She gets a raw huge chew bone everyso often She loves to just gnaw at it for days on end .. No chance of bits sticking in her guts and she doesn't make it much smaller . Raw hoofs filled with peanut butter for her are a real treat.

Cuz Mouse also press a few doggy pellets into the peanut butter.. it makes for interesting eating ..
You should see the size of her Christmas Bone... it will take her months of enjoyment .

I am wondering if I should also try it for the hungry insect and nut eating birdies in winter. :hmz:

Hi MM and Hugh, I bought a big ostrich bone from my vet for Gal, nice as it does not splinter , keeps her busy for days.

I would like to wish all the pets out there a merry Xmas, I hope your owners give you a special Xmas dinner, and a big bone for all the doggies.

Merry Christmas to all ye pets and pets people! :gflower:

I'm totally cat illiterate but I'm learning by reading your posts!

My doggy health problems are at last over! Zina's armpit healed without anything more than the antibiotics and she's back to her own self. What a relief!

Since the poison dried food that did the rounds a while back, I only feed my dogs home cooked meals. We have a good relationship with the owner of the local supermarket and when they clean out their freezers on around the 22nd of each month, we get a call to collect the meat. The first time a whole deboned chicken landed in Boris' bowl he was all  , not sure if he was allowed to eat.

Gess was given her enormous bone this morning.... She just lay down and crossed her paws in front of her and stared at the bone.. I dont think she believed it was hers alll hers !! I carried it to her kennel and she spent quite some time chewing.. It will take her quite a while to get through it.
Glad Zina is well again Jenb

Hugh, all those treats make Gess a firm believer in giving and receiving, I'm sure. Love the idea of the hoof and peanut butter too.

Jen, glad your little doll is fine again. I'm sure she's in pet paradise getting the same meals you all do. Like the idea of bargaining with the local supermarket.

Carol, ostrich bones are always a win as it keeps them absorbed for hours and, as you say, no danger of splintering.

And a really special thank you to MM for looking after our Calico for all those weeks. Callie is a marvellously contented and relaxed dog being in the middle of MM's pack. MM, thank you for all your commitment and love - you are a special person, an earth-bound angel that attends to the healing and happiness of both pets and humans upon this needy planet. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

Calie is part of the extended family. It is always such fun having cousins over to visit. 8)

Had a little set back with the doggie reconciliation process today. :? Got quite despondent initially - it is difficult having the pack divided - quite unsettling and I was feeling a little depressed. Then I thought of all the dogs who are not as fortunate as mine - even in these times of canine conflict - and vowed to try and keep perspective and a positive outlook. Because there are thousands of doggies who are doing it tough..... :(

I may have mentioned before but it is worth mentioning again.....

There are some people in Phuket with whom I was fortunate to spend a few weeks after the 2004 tsunami. They devote their time and energy to the welfare of the street dogs of Phuket. These ordinary, yet extraordinary, men and women's love, compassion and dedication continues to inspire me. The story of their continuing efforts to neuter, spay and treat and feed the street dogs (and cats) of Phuket. The story of the efforts to educate; to campaign against the dog meat trade. Read The amazing and heart warming stories of adoption of street dogs to Europe, the US and now in 2013 the very first adopted dog will come out of quarantine and find his new loving home in Australia. :D
Happy reading!

My 10 yr old niece's cat Fluffy, has won the Bob Martins "Bright-eyed cats competition". Competing with thousands of other entries. She won herself a R1500 first prize and a Bob Martins hamper.

She will be featured in the 2013 calender of the Dec/Jan issue of "All about cats" magazine.

Here is the winning pic;
