Thanks for the cutest video Nico! Those piglets are adorable!

I simply love that drooby expression on the two Great Danes' faces when they can only watch and are not allowed to chase them! Beautiful dogs!

Nico, what noble Danes 8) I do love the little piglets, they are just so high on the cuteness scale.
Is that Yvonne walking the dogs?

Steve.. butter would not melt in that mouth

So this morning I rashly decided to try and take all four dogs for a walk on leads by myself. As soon as I got the leads out it started - craziness!!! But two in each hand we set off up the rise behind the house and very soon things went out of control. First Scooter was pulling so hard that the snap hook somehow undid itself and Scooter took off into the long grass. So there is me with the other three trying to run after him and pretty soon we were all on the ground in a mound of tangled wreckage at which point Lucy's collar came off too (thankfully she stayed put!). When Scooter knew the game was up I got his lead back on and Lucy sorted and after a bit of cursing and threatening I took stock......'calm, assertive........calm, assertive', I swapped two of them around to opposite sides and shortened the length of the leads by half, stood up tall, shook my shoulders and relaxed my arms and we were off! Somehow the message got through and we got through the rest of the walk in an almost orderly fashion. :D Quite a feat for four excitable terriers who just want to put noses to the ground and take off after all the fox, kangaroo, quail and other smells to follow!

Hugh, is that the remains of a shoe I see? We have a couple of those too.

Those are noble Danes, Nico! :D
My dogs have the same problem with SANParks! They're not pets, they're four legged people and they just hate me leaving them here when we go off to have fun!

Steven, that face has to belong to a dachshund! :k

Threedogs, we should call you Threedogwhisperer! 8)
I always think "calm and assertive, calm and assertive" and when the gate opens it's whooopeeeee, off we go!

Jenb,

:funny:

Threedogs, I can imaine the scene.

My little Price who recently died, used to scream with excitement, sometimes through the whole walk when he was younger. He would strain so badly at the lead that he would choke.

I once passed a rather bemused man who looked at this crazy animal. He commented, "dog taking you for a walk, is he?"

Just love your doggie-walking stories! It sounds so familiar, although I will not dare to take these four of mine for a walk on my own! Too many other doggies in the vicinity. Do you live on a farm or a small holding Threedogs? Must be lovely to have all the space where it wouldn't matter too much if one should get loose. :D

Hi hilda! :)
We have 120 acres which we don't farm - most of it is set aside for conservation and consists of remnant scrub and also a large area of beautiful mature gums (some a couple of hundred years old) with native grass understory. About a third of it is not really of true conservation value and that bit is pasture for my three horses. We have an enclosed backyard so that the doggies are safely contained when we are not home but of course they need more exercise and stimulation!
So I am lucky to be able to meander about on it and if the dogs get loose they are safe from cars but I have to watch out they don't get away and chase kangaroos or I may not find them again! I also have to be careful they don't follow a smell and take off into the neighbours properties.
The spoilt one - Scooter - gets selective deafness all too often! :x

You want to know of selected hearing? Get a basset. They only hear the food bowls rattle.

Jenb I love those bassets of yours Beagles too have very selective hearing Food bowls just need to be touched but when old dougie was digging a hole nothing would distract him and Beagles move a lot faster than bassets ...... But now we have Gess and all she wants to do is love us and I just pat my thigh and she is next to me ... marvellous
