Oh ya, now that i think about it i've seen a Scops owl at Satara too. Aren't they adorable

Me too, yes.

Seen them in Afsaal & Tamboti also.

While in satara was asked by a lady with a official SANpark badge to follow.
(We were taking pictures of the birds near the bungalow)
She took us to a tree near the campsite where we could see a
schopsie in a tree and in a perfect setting for pictures.

Always found it a pity that i never remebered her name.
She is a credit to SANparks

When we were staying at Olifants, had a flattie on the Braii in the evening then went inside to quaff some Amarula
Heard a noise and this Spotted Genet was raiding the Braai!
Awesome!!

Reading through this thread me-thinks genets should be renamed gannets! My SIL had one as a pet (rehabilitated from being caught in a trap causing a missing front paw) and Genny was aboslutely adorable, but she was very partial to chicken!

Being surprised by a female leopard with two cubs after supper at Mabuasehube when camping. When i saw her she was only 20 meters away.
My SO made it in the car but i was to afraid to move and was frozen when she looked at me.

Luckily she wasn't interested in me and after 20 minutes i had a chance to get into the car.

The three leopards spend another hour in our campsite until they went off.

It's a large spotted genet, just in case you were wondering. The tail ends with a black tip. If it ends in a white tip its the small one.

My storie is much the same as yours Meg

We were standing on the Letaba bridge also watching some Waterbuck when we saw Lions on the bank of the river and how they started stalking the Waterbuck and eventually turned into a high pace chase..I got it all on film but the waterbuck got away this time as well(to my disapointment and the rest of my family's relief)

In one of the private unfenced camps that we stayed at, the camp manager was practising his lion calls. It was about 8:00 PM and we where on our way back to our chalet from dinner, accompanied by a security guard when he notice a big black maned lion crouching in the grass about 3m from the path. The guy stooped down slowly and picked up some small stones which he then proceeded to flick at the lion, nothing aggressive though. The lion grudgingly gave way and left much to our relief.

On another occasion after seeing a black rhino at a hide we realised that we had a 30m walk though some rather dense bush back to our car at the parking lot. The thought of coming across a black rhino along that path put some real fear in us and it was a relief when we got to the car.

Not sure how relevant this is, as it did not occur directly in a National Park, but a few years back, when i was about 8 years old, very inquisitive i was at that age, i had a frightful and apparently comical moment. It was in the Umbabat Nature Reserve outside The Kruger National Park, we were all sitting inside the chalet, (all, being family and friends) when i heard odd sounds eminating close to the chalet. My parents said i should just go have a look. So I stepped into the bushveld darkness, picked up the spotlight outside the door and shone in the direction of the dusty sounds. I "shot" back into the chalet in less than 2 seconds (possibly less) after witnessing 2 very large adult Spotted Hyenas less than 2 metres from my nose. Maybe I'm fortunate I wasn;t the one to see the lionesses outside a chalet on the other side of the camp that same week.

Ok heres a couple stories...

In Kruger.

At Kruger gate while waiting for my dad to pay a spotted hyena ran across the bridge and down into the river.

P.S. not from Kruger but from outside the park. The guys there called him by name...

In bots

Hyena crawling under our trailer while we were cooking. Next night-hyena walks straight through us and steals our meat of the fire. Next nite- lions mating in the camp.

Not the most exiting but very special anyway.

I met this guy on my way to the ablution block in LS. He was the perfect model, posing completely still. I moved around him and took pictures from all different angles. Beautiful!

I also saw a couple of those in Lower Sabie on my last trip and I must say, they are stunning.
I saw one motionless half way up a tree at the entrance and one blocked the road to the tented camp for ages.

That is what makes Kruger so good! There is always the "Small plenty" to see.

I love watching the Dung beetles. Ever seen them trying to hijack one anther's dung balls or rolling a dung ball uphill and looses control every now and again? Priceless!!

Then a "Big 5 cowboy" comes along and drives right over the dung pile!
