Nikon D5100 or Nikon D90

Unread postby Toddy » Wed Feb 22, 2012 12:58 pm

I am thinking about getting a second camera to alleviate having to change lenses all the time.
As my budget won't stretch to the Nikon D7000 I have narrowed it down to the Nikon D90 or Nikon D5100.

Anyone that has any experiences with these two cameras that can provide any feedback would be appreciated.

What I have managed to gather though is that most individuals favour the D90 but most camera comparison websites favour the D5100. :?

Toss a coin and pick one. There's not all that much difference between them, having used both (my b-i-l has a D90 and my sister a D5100).

From what I can make out it all comes down to how important you rate megapixels really.

If price isn't a factor, I would side with the D5100, simply because it's the later model, and therefore has the later technology.

Thanks Orange, interesting to see that you say if price isn't a factor I should go with the D5100.
The D90 is actually about £70 more expensive than the D5100 over here which has got me wondering why.

As far as my knowledge the d5100 has the same sensor as the d7000. I would rather go for the d5100 as it is much newer than the d90. D90 has been discontinued, but brought back again. D5100 has a lot more futures in it.

If the D90 is more expensive than the D5100 then it becomes a bit of a no-brainer for me. The D5100 is newer, a higher megapixel rating, and fractionally faster.

The D90 doesn't really have much going for it...

Hi Toddy,
I have two D90's and have been using them since they first came out and must say I'm fully satisfied. Great camera to hold and use and really haven't found any drawbacks.

Unfortunately I have no experience with the D5100 but if you end up getting a D90 you'll def be satisfied.

Hi

I got the D5100 and was really impressed. I would defnitely recommend the D5100.
