Hi all,

I have got a new body, Sony A55, which is a fast transmirror camera with 10 images per second. So I think it would be clever to use a Hyper Sonic Motor lens on it, just to keep the speed.

I have been searching and a very nice lens will be the Sony 70-200 F2.8 G. But it's very expensive. There are alternatives from Tamron: 70-200 F2.8 SP Di. The quality of the images is supposed to be equal to the Sony, but less fast.
Then there is also an alternative from Sigma: 70-200/2.8 II EX DG APO HSM Macro, it got the speed, but the pictures aren't that good from quality as the Sony and the Tamron does.

So my question to you girls and guys, does anyone has experience / advise for me?
I know you aren't aloud to name a store to buy, but is it worth to import it from the USA (because the dollar is low instead to the euro) into the Netherlands?

Forgot to mention that we also have an A350 with 3 lenses:
- TAMRON 18-200 F3.5-6.3 Di II
- Sigma 135-400 F4.5-5.6
- Minolta 80-200 F2.8 (2nd hand, once fixed and now a polafilter isn't possible anymore)

Tnx for your advice.

Hi FlorisCathy,

first of all i am glad to hear that it is not only me who is using Sony. :D
I don´t have the Alpha 55 but the Alpha 580.

Well.............i don´t have any experiences with the lenses you have mentioned. But what i suggest is to test the lenses. Order them at the big online store everybody knows in Europe  (if you don´t know which one i mean please pm me) and test them. You have the right of exchange for 14 days so it should be enough time for a serious test.

I am not sure if it worth to import a lens. Yes, the Euro is strong to the Dollar at the moment but don´t you have to pay taxes when importing technical items from the USA to Europe?

Tnx for your reply.
We did search some US sites, and indeed, we pay a lot of tax. On the sony lens it is a bit cheaper, but I don't think it's worth the travel and knowing that it's imported. (Don't know how guarantee is arranged on that).
I think I will go to a store and try there some lenses.

If there are still experienced people, plz let us know.
