Nikon repair

Unread postby Jeffrey52 » Sat Aug 17, 2013 10:40 am

Hi
Can someone please suggest a reliable place to repair my wife's D40. She's sent it in to Nikon SA (twice) via a major JHB photo shop - not impressed. I know there used to be a guy in Linden who used to do a good job on my old F4.
Thanks
Jeff

I suggest that, if you are in the greater Jhb area, you take it into Nikon personally, so that you can explain to the technicians exactly what the problem is ....... Dealing through a 3rd party retail outlet is not necessarily the best method of achieving success.

Jeffrey
The Nikon D40 is an entry level digital SLR camera body which is no longer made and probably towards the end of spares availability.
The cost of any repair may be more than the camera is worth and close to the cost of another more recently manufactured new camera body.
if funds are available it may be the opportunity to upgrade to a better camera.
Good luck

My D40X packed up in the Kgalagadi recently :( Need to make a plan to have it repaired.
I've been to Nikon in Kyalami a few times before. Always had good service, but what a schlep!

Out of interest Jeffrey52, whats the issue with your camera?

Hi Josh
It's my wife's camera - the focussing mechanism has this habit of jamming. I've told her it's time to upgrade.

Ok, good luck with the repairs.
It appears my sensor has packed up.
I love the D40, so small and light, great for traveling and hiking!
I really hope I can repair mine

Hi Josh, if its the focusing mechanism it could be the lens as far as i know the D40 doesnt have a inbuilt focus motor.
I try my best and that's what matters I hope.

HI timbo
Steven from Sunray in Linden sorted it - was the lens. So far all seems good.
Best
