Thanks Barry - I'm enjoying your TR too - love those birds!!

some more than stunning Lake Panic impressions you showed and for sure love your hyaena pictures although these ones could indeed get extreme naughty

Thanks Pumbaa - I did love LP and have WAY more photos from there - it truly is a great place and the birds are great. Hyenas were a constant for us this trip and we couldn't be more pleased as they possess character galore!!! Just like in the lion king movie - but maybe not as evil!!!

Ok - well overdue for an episode! We woke up, stretched and rubbed our eyes and decided to venture to Oliphantdrinkgat and indeed we found a small breeding herd there drinking!

Image

They were on a mission and moved off quickly except for one young female. When she discovered the herd moved off she cut across where we'd been parked quietly a little to close for my comfort!!! My SO is luckily very experienced with ellies and didn't panic and she only gave us a head shake and moved off when there was no reaction!

Image

Well that woke me up the rest of the way with a little adrenal help.... We went up to the tablets - Klipspringers! Yay! and then decided to head back via the Maroela loop to LP again ( no I'm not addicted.... )
Some sighings on the way...
A baby leopard tortoise - so vibrant in colour!
Image

Love was in the air for these steenbokkies!
Image

Or maybe just in the males air!!! The lady was a little distracted...
Image

Turtle Doves are still beautiful and we love the call = 'drrrrink laaaager' = because it is almost that time!!
Image

The waka waka waka call of the hornbills are also ubiquitous!
Image
A highlight for us were some trumpeter hornbills today - no pics...And we heard the Shelley's francolin but couldn't get a bead on the actual bird...

LP - light wasn't as good but I got some photos.....
Majestic goliath heron
Image

Love me those jacanas......
Image

And the best - the little family of Black Crakes showed themselves!! Ag Shame!!!!
Image

Until next time!

Forestgump - thanks very much! I love the whole experience and you're right its best not to concentrate on just the lions - although I've found that if you're looking and spending time with the little things you get the big ones in spades also!!!

Haha! Yes we got a DUMP of snow last weekend and I think another forecast of snow for this weekend - but yesterday I spotted some early spring crocuses to reassure me that the warmer weather is on the way! And that the white stuff will melt soon enough!! And the skiing is better when there's snow  .... But, there's no comparison with the winter in SA.....
