This will be my first trip report and I'm pleased to relive our month in KNP last year! It had been 6 long years since we were last in KNP and we were super pleased to have been able to get back and explore it from bottom to top and back again.

Highlights to come:
Nyalaland Wilderness Trail!
6 leopard sightings! (5 found by us first!)
2 different lion hunts in 2 hours!
Mocambique spitting cobra swallowing prey (you'll never guess what!)
black rhino!
wild dogs!
over 150 spps of birds
and an amazing at least 1 new species of animal every day for 26 days - KNP delivered!

Here are some photos to get you excited to join the trip!

Lion near Satara

mmm…. what happens next????

Need I say anything about this beauty? Words just cannot do her justice!

Wild about cats - Thanks for you compliments; Nyalaland was our first wilderness trail in KNP - well worth it - SO into history and I'm into birds - you can't get better!

Here we go!

Our first camp was Croc Bridge - we arrived late afternoon - having driven from Swaziland that morning and stopping in Komatiport for supplies. We unfortunately only had one night at Croc bridge… so it was short but sweet!

First bird - one of my favourites (warning you will see that word favourite a lot on this report!): African jacana
First mammal - vervet monkey in camp - then a lone bull elephant grazing by the fence!
First view of Kruger
Image

:D

We found our tent and unpacked quickly, with just enough time for about an hour in the park…. we didn't get very far - impala, blue wildebeest, giraffe with red and yellow billed oxpeckers, warthog entertained us.
I spotted a lifer - a Eurasian golden oriole!

Image

Natal francolin - he was loving the flying termites!

Image

Crested barbet - too handsome..

Image

Black bellied bustard at sunset!

We also heard our first owl: Verreaux's Eagle owl - but we just couldn't find him in the tree at the river bed. This trip would prove to be all about hearing but not always spotting those owls!!!

Back at camp we had supper while listening to lions calling in the distance. Absolute bliss! Kruger at last!
