South bound: We drove to Marie se Draai waterhole. On the way to the waterhole we passed a pair of Lions asleep under a bush with lots of cars watching them. So we decided to give it a miss and visit the waterhole. There were only Gemsbok so we slowly drove back to see the Lions.

They had moved to another bushImage

We decided to be patient again and wait and see if the inevitable would happen. A few times they rolled overImage

a couple of times the male opened his eyes and looked over at us (probably thinking ‘are they still there?’) Image

and finally mated (obviously she was interested!). Notice the 'soft focus' so as not to offend.Image

They then wandered off to another bush for another napImage

We headed back towards camp and then yet another surprise!

Whoo hoo, nice lion sighting! Funny I'm at the "lions mating" part of my trip report as well! I wasn't nice about their privacy like you, there are some pretty graphic images.

Thanks Meandering Mouse and Trrp-Trrrrrrr,

Wildcatzoo - the soft focus wasn't intentional they had just moved behind a bush!!

I am just thinking that the same thing happened a month later. Wonder if its the same guy, because if so he is really lucky with the ladies.

Lovely shots of the couple and some nice close-ups too.   Not sure if you posting under the lion thread, because it will be great to compare the cats.

You will see my male and female on the webcam of 5 Dec 2013.

Hi Son godin

Not sure if they are the same pair but suppose they could be.
He looks quite a mature male as his mane is dark and goes down his legs.

Will post some of the pics on the lion thread too.

Regards
DD & PF

After leaving the lions we carried on back towards camp.

Suddenly we spotted a Honey Badger with 3 attendant PCGs. He was digging and they were following hoping for a free meal. Again this is something we had heard about but never seen before.

We were back in camp at 6.50pm (33°).
Here we met another Yellow Ribbon – Katja. We chatted and discovered she was going to be at Grootkolk when we were there.
After dinner we walked over to the hide but only BBJs came in.
Some more weird and wonderful nightlife:

The last one is the same type of Hawkmoth that we had seen before.

That's all for now.

Thanks all for your kind comments.

The honey badger was a great sighting. After being with the mating lions for over an hour we were on a real high and this sighting just ended the day off nicely   .

All for now and will return to the next instalment after Saturdays chores are over.

Take care wherever you are.

PS:If anyone can identify some of the nightlife it would be most appreciated.

PF & DD.
